Ref
Armour of Fate This model has a 3+ invulnerable save. The first time this model is destroyed, roll one D6 at the end of the phase. On a 4+, set this model back up on the battlefield as close as possible to where they were destroyed and not within Engagement Range of any enemy models, with D6 wounds remaining.

My concern is with the bolded portion in the passage above. It seems straight forward but it's missing something.

What points of the models am I trying to get close too? Am I measuring the distance between the closest edge of the base? Or from center to center? it makes a big difference, and the latter could be ambiguous with the Yncarne replacing odd shaped vehicles.

I think “measuring distances” in the core rules covers this:

Distances are measured in inches (") between the closest points
of the bases of the models you’re measuring to and from. If a
model does not have a base, such as is the case with many vehicles, measure to the closest point of any part of that model; this is called measuring to the model’s hull. You can measure distances whenever you wish.

You're measuring closest edge of the base to closest edge. They have to be more than 1" away (horizontally, more than 5 inches vertically)

All of them...

Every part of the base needs to be as close to its last position as possible.

With the key point being the distance between the two models (measured from the closest point between the two bases) must be beyond Engagement range. Easy on a model with a round base. A bit trickier if the base is oblong (or dare I say, rectangular).

With the -other- key point that you're not measuring from a model to a -model-. You're measuring from the model (the one you're putting back on the table) and the area where it used to be.

That indicates that you're essentially dealing with distance as you would calculate it for movement, not distance as you would calculate it for between two models.

For two models, sure, but this is the same model...

I'm not sure what you are trying to get at. The model must be placed as close as possible to its prior position while not being in Engagement range of enemy models. This means it either has to be placed where it was (since you can't get closer than that) unless that would put it within Engagement range of an enemy model or on top of another model. You only know if it would be in Engagement Range by measuring from model to model. If that prior location would place it within Engagement range of an enemy model, you have to measure the distance to another model to know when the placement is outside of Engagement range.

"measuring from model to model"? What do you mean by that, there is only one model that is removed and replaced. It is literally the same model.

Ohh, you are talking about measuring from the enemy model to the model that is being placed. That was not clear before.

Now we are on the same page. The model goes back 'exactly' where it was or as close as possible due to being displaced by another model, including Engagement range of enemy models.
