Back with his Blightlord retinue on the GW store. Treated as a Lord of Contagion with a Manreaper.

Never liked these sculpts, but glad to see them return for variety's sake + those players who didn't own a LoC. Hope they bring back the DI one at some point though, it's a far superior model.

If he's a Lord of Contagion - fair enough, but what is the point of 3 Blightlord Terminators that have to be in groups of 5 minimum. There's no entry for a Lord to have a cohort.
I liked the look of the models, but why aren't rules in the new codex if this is a reprinted existing model?

Because these were literally models that came with their own datasheet, released as a supplemental bit to the Dark Imperium starter set.

He was as much a real "named character" for the codex as the Plague Surgeon was.

It's funny watching the model slowly propagate to the various regional GW sites. They've reached "Rest of the World - English" but not the US yet.

If you don't mind the sculpt, £25 isn't too bad for a terminator armoured HQ by today's prices. That's how much the last wave of space marine HQs are, and this one comes with 3 (useless?) extra terminators.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
There's still quite a few of the DI Lord of Contagion floating around on eBay though, which seems like the better choice to me.

Not my favourite model but the same way I did not like the fact new dex screwed up PM and Termis load outs and I think Lord Felthius retinue etc fall into that same trap GW created since now theres no rules to justify it so the model should not exist... I could care less! The more models the better in my book with rules or not. Maybe next dex he will get included who knows?

Definitely a surprise, but a welcome one. Not quite sure why he went away in the first place...

Makes me hesitant to buy the OOP models off ebay, since maybe GW will re release them? Heck, the "super rare, exclusive" trio of Plague marines was re released twice and is now a permanent kit (just minus some card art)

I wonder if The Tainted Cohort will get a proper rules/points insert for matched play or if this is fluff only.

How easy are these guys to convert? I know they're easy to build, but can the arms potentially be swapped out? I know the heads are usually easy to change

Well, felthius wasn’t too bad. As I didn’t like his head.
The others are more difficult, but if you’re alright at converting and just minor filling etc then not too bad.

Between that explanation and the info on GWs site, I still have no idea if I can buy this and use it in my army as a unit? It's not in the codex and GWs description of a Lord and his cohort makes it sound like a unit. Is it? There's no mention of any additional rules in the blurbs.
Or is it just 4 alternate sculpts I can replace existing models with?

Currently most played: Silent Death, Xenos Rampant, Mars Code Aurora and Battletech.
I tried dabbling with 40k9/10 again and tried AoS3 - Nice models, naff games, but I'm enjoying HH2 and loving Battletech Classic and Alpha Strike.

The latter. Some conversion work might be necessary (or desired) but they work well as a lord and some terminators.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

I had no troubles converting two of them into extra death shrouds with the extra scythe blade from the box and felthius scythe arm. You might need some extra shoulder pads so it doesn't look gak, but those can be found in the blightlord box.
You just need carve out some space to fit other heads inside the armor.

From the look of the sprues, head swaps look super-easy for all of these guys.

Kind of. Heady from other kits don't fit properly, so you need to carve out some plastic to make room. It's not as simple as just putting another head there, especially the hooded heads from the deathshroud kit are tricky because they are so large. But if I can do it, anybody else can do it as well.
The only real downside is that one arm is usually fixed to the torso.

I had three of the kits from the conquest magazine, I build them into two deathshrouds (picture below), kept two spitters, one of each bolter model and converted the other three into blight launcher, reaper and flail.

It's very odd to release these when they were inexplicably rendered illegal by the codex just a few months ago.

The codex has changed absolutely nothing about how legal or illegal those models are. Plague spewer without an axe or a sword has never been legal and neither has fielding just three terminators.

They had their own specific datasheet before, so they were legal.

Uhm, they didn't? They had a pair of datasheets attached to the painting guide and instructions which weren't actually legal anywhere because it was both open play only and overridden by the codex, as all datasheets from the boxes. Felthius and his cohort have never been a part of any book.

BattleScribe is not a replacement for real rules.

There's gonna be a set of the ETB Agressors in the next 40k Hatchette series Imperium. They're near the front of the Primaris bikers in this image.
