How do.

Looking for a quick favour if I may. If you’ve got Heavy Intercessors still on sprue, can you weigh them for me, with their bases, and post up the result in Grams?

Is this like a super tongue in cheek question?

If so I got quite a giggle.

So many questions…

How much does a sprue of regular intercessors weigh? Are the heavy ones actually heavier?

How does the price per gram compare to other things? Is that a metric we should explore?

Any why do you need to know. I’m assuming shipping costs. But maybe some plan to balance 40k by mass. Can’t be much worse then GW’s system some days…

More importantly, Mad Doc now owes me a favor.

new on sprue none, but 2nd squad of counts as coming off the 3d printer today. honestly at this point given the quality of resin prints and GWs insistence that $60 for a 5 man squad is somehow worth it when a phrozen sonic mini 4k can do every bit the detail of a GW sculpt for the cost of 6 heavy intercessor squads then everything after that is gravy.

of note the printer can do better detail than this, but this is all the detail the sculpts that I found have as space marines are pretty lacking in detail vs say Tzangors (i like em and the artist did a great job imo)

My Phonton Mono looks just as good. It is a 200$ printer at this point.

There will come a point where buying minis in a box just makes no sense, in a decade of so I'd say.

I wonder if GW has given any thought on how it'll adapt to 3D printing.

We all know how slow they were to embrace online stuff.

My theory is they know what is coming so they are making as much money as they can now. Right now small models are easy to print. Large models not so much (archaeon size). So they come out with a lot of large hard to reproduce models.

So what do they do for small models? They Cut the number of models you get in a kit from 10 to 5 or 5 to 3 to and raised the price. They figure they can't stop the printers so they will just gouge the people who don't have them. Honestly I don't even believe GW figured their scheme would work this well. LOL

yea the phrozon sonic mini 4k is just the same size with better resolution screen for teeny tiny details. That said for space marines it makes little to no difference, only place you see it it super fine detail on smaller sculpts liek some of my ork or demon stuff I am working on and want just that little bit extra detail there is a comparison to normal 2k size printers in this article and its only slightly noticeably different but its there . https://all3dp.com/1/phrozen-sonic-mini-4k-review-3d-printer-specs/

they have to know about it, but they are still making record profits. I imagine they will have to respond in one of 3 ways.

1st (and most likely imo) still make models but primarily become a services company where they make rules and sell a monthly subscription to all codexes or rules. This woudl get them stable set income with the ability to still make extra selling to people not wanting to print models.

2nd is embrace 3d printers and sell files allowing a person to print the GW models on thier machine. likely somehow they will require networking and be one time use files where you buy online then the tell your printer to print the desired kit. It would be cool to just buy a kit and be abel to make all you want but alas i doubt GW does that

3rd and least likely would be actually lowering the price so that it no longer made sense to buy a printer vs just buying the army you wanted to have. Though to this end I think indomidus and some of these as of late good value boxes are thier way of getting people into official GW cheap where they can still sell some higher priced kits.
