With the general rise in lethality and damage output of each new codex, I've found the bread and butter of 20-man warrior bricks with Chronomancer support is becoming less effective; more and more units can comfortably delete them. So I'm trying a different take on the Necron Silent King deathball, focusing on lots of T5, lots of 4++, and (hopefully) enough obsec to score well on primaries.

Vanguard + Supreme Command Detachments
Dynasty: obsec + 6" move
- TSK
- Anrakyr (with Rarefied Nobility for reroll charges aura)
- Technomancer (Veil, Cryptogeometric Adjuster)
- Technomancer (Voltaic Staff)
- 3x10 sword and board Lychguard
- 10 Praetorians with rods
- 5 Scarabs
- 2x2 Cryptothralls
Points: 2000 // Starting CP: 10

Default secondaries will be Code of Combat, Scramblers and Engage (perhaps one being opponent-based if it looks like an easy take).

Protocols:
1) Sudden Storm
2) Hungry Void
3) Hungry Void
4) Undying Legions
5) Eternal Guardian

Actually, I like it.
Thirty Lychguard with sword/board are hard to shift when they occupy mission objectives in the centre.
What I'm missing are fire support units.

I've had good success with 30 obsec lychguard myself. Haven't tried running them with the SK but they absolutely do just win objective fights.

For fire support, I was considering dropping the Scarabs, Praetorians and Cryptek Arkana - these would be replaced with 2 DDAs. They don't have the same level of synergy as the Praetorians though, and some screening/mobility will be lost. The 30 Lychguard core still remains the same though.

Makes sense. Ask pfreak5, he likes the models too (and I always appreciate his comments). However, I absolutely dislike Ghostarks and DDAs so that I'd prefer either LHDs or Doomscythes.

What's the reason for the dislike? A modelling perspective or a gameplay perspective?

Just a modelling perspective so that I'd never field them.

Fair enough, from a modelling perspective I'd field a potato with an ankh on it if it were viable! The only thing that concerns me is just how swingy the DDAs can be, and the relative lack of mobility to ensure the high power profile goes off. LHDs have more reliable damage output but at the cost of significant durability, which I don't think is worth the trade-off when it comes to how much indirect fire some armies can bring.

After having played a list that's primarily vehicles that included 3 DDAs a couple of times, I feel like you don't actually need to have the high profile shooting nearly as much as you'd think. In a list like that you're more concerned about high powered shots when you are picking targets that need it, but you'll have enough to shoot at which can be reliably killed with the low powered profile. Movement is actually more of a concern and tactical decision with the list since you need to score objectives with so few models and you CAN'T always use the high powered shots. This doesn't change the swingy factor, but I think it's worth noting.

I'd like to chime in to say low powered profile can still do a lot of work against any target profile.

Yeah that sounds reasonable actually; I'll run the two DDAs in lieu of the Praetorians and Scarabs and see how they perform. Thanks for the advice!
