I am getting back into 40k (since 4-5th Edition). I am using my old Nurgle Army and I notice there are two units that I can no longer use. Chaos Space Marine Havoks and Plague Bearers.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on what I could do with them to include them in my army? Just looking for a way to play my miniatures I already have painted.

Thank you for your time.

How are your Havoks armed?

You can summon Plague Bearers, or include them as an allied force.

You can always have a 2nd detachment from the chaos marines codex.

Thank you for your answers, I do not see rules in my Death Guard book for how to summon Plague Bearers, I assume this is in another book? If so can you tell me which one?

My Havoks are armed with Lascannons and Heavy Bolters.

The rules for summoning Plague Bearers are in the Chaos Daemons codex

I know the CSM Codex has Daemonic Ritual ability for Chaos Characters but I'm not sure if the DG Codex has it.
I would suggest potentially running your army as The Purge Renegade Chapter. You won't lose any of your old units, they are Nurgle aligned, and Plaguebearers are included in the current CSM Codex as well however, the rules for using The Purge are not. IIRC they will be in the upcoming Warzone Charadon: Book of Fire campaign supplement. The Renegade Chapters are actually some of the better subfactions for CSM as well.

The Heavy Bolters could be used as Blight Launchers in PM squads in a pinch. Lascannons? You're SOL. Maaaayyyyyybbeeee with some conversion work you could use them as Foul Blightspawns, but for the most part they need to be rearmed.

As a note, although the Plaguebearers rules are present they are not CSM forces. They would have to be either summoned in, or brought in a Chaos Daemons/Nurgle detachment.

Also, the Daemonic Ritual ability is a Codex: Chaos Daemons ability, and is only included in the Chaos Space Marines codex for reference, which has lead to much confusion and is the reason for it, and all references to daemons like Plaguebearers, etc, being removed from codexes like Death Guard going forward.

Chaos Daemons codex has the ruls for summoning.

Basically: if a chaos character doesnt move in the movement phase, you can roll 2d6. If the roll is a double that character takes D3 MWs. Regardless, you can deep strike a unit of daemons up to the power level of your 2d6 roll anywhere within 12" of that character.

You have to reserve a certain amount of points in your army to summon, but the nice thing is

1) summoned units dont count for the purpose of 'your army is entirely DEATH GUARD' so you get your plague bonus if you take allies as summons only

2) you get your slow nurgle daemons a bit closer to the enemy thanks to the 12" deep strike bit

3) you can pick'n'choose which units to bring along. You just say in your list "i've got 200 points of summoning" and then you can bring any daemon units you like.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

It's a stretch but if it's only Havocs and nothing more to make a whole Detachment then you could proxy the Havocs as Rapier weapon carriers from the FW Book.
Personally I use my Havocs, Obliterators, Bikes and Raptors in Purge detachments. Plague Marines serve double duty as CSM with Mark of Nurgle if needed.

Thanks every one that is helpful. I guess my next question is, should I just wait until the 9th edition versions of the Chaos Space Marine or Daemon books come out or is the 8th edition playable?

The 8th stuff is playable.

You could of course wait. But that doesn't really help you in the here & now + nobody can tell you how long it'll be before those books arrive....
My advise is to get those books but spend as little as possible on them.

Gadzilla gave me some advice regarding playing CSM in 9th recently that was along the lines of, you don't know when the new books are coming out so just go for it.

I haven't personally used the 40k app, but I think the subscription still comes with the 8th ed codices. That might be more cost effective than buying 2 codices from 8th that are due to be replaced.

8th CSM is technically playable but even in casual play they kinda struggle in my opinion. Although that depends partially on which army you're facing, other 8th edition dexes should be okay, all the 9th edition one's will be an uphill struggle.
