Tor Garadon, Imperial Fist Captain & Champion of my 1st Company.

Here is what I did to achieve this effect.
1. Undercoated with a can of cheap yellow spray paint - cost me well under $10AUD.
2. Gave it two thin coats with an hour dry time in between.
3. Once thoroughly dry, I placed in a small capsule and washed with Agrax Earthshade.
4. After more time - a minimum of an hour to make sure all the crevices are dried out - I painted the majority of the wiring/tubing and mounted weapon with 5. Contrast Black Templar. A second coat was required, dry time is much faster here. Maybe twenty minutes.
6. The cape is Mephiston Red with Kindleflame dry brushed highlights.
7. The shoulder edges are Evil Suns Scarlet.
8. The armor was then coated *just once* with Iyanden Yellow Contrast.
9. I then dry brushed the armor edging with Hexos Palesun.
10.The cracks and crevices got one more go-over with Agrax Earthshade - more precise this time.
11.The base was then earthed and textured. The rim is Fenrisian Grey, the sand / debris was glued and a long time allowed for it to dry - a few hours at minimum.
12. I then flooded the brush with more Agrax Earthshade and applied it liberally over the sand / debris and allowed to dry.
13. The sand highlight is a dry-brushing of Ulthuan Grey.
14. I like the effect I achieved with the green crystal / stone at the front. This was done by coating the original yellow base with a couple of layers of Terradon Turquoise and Drakenhof Nightshade (not sure the latter brought much to the party tbh).
15. I then dry-brushed the green stone edges with Moot Green to achieve the not quite glass finish.
16. The step that, I think, gave the armor a more cohesive look was to then go over it all with one more coat of Iyanden Yellow Contrast - everywhere except for the double crest on the breastplate.
17. To colour the face I used one liberal layer of Gore Grunta Fur. The hair is a precise dry-brushing of Praxeti White over the top.
18. The Captain's badge is Balthazar Gold with Nuln Oil for shading.
19. The belt (and the one piece I can see I still have not painted properly!) is Dryad Bark.
20. The chain and accolade are both white. The chain was brushed with Praxeti White and the paper of the accolade is wraithbone, with Gal Vorbak Red for the wax seal.

...I think that's everything.

I really like how "weathered" the armor is. You really brought out how many battles he must have seen. I think you also did awesome on the burned armor parts around the powerpack's heat vents.

Keep on going with small touches. Drill the barrels of the gun, etch out the details of the wires.

You have made a great piece here, keep it up!

I think your off to a good start!

You certainly have the brush control for small details (looking at the purity seal there), but what i would to see is the next level of highlights. You have a good basecoat, but the model itself seems unfinished to me, especially his head.

I think with a little more time, you could have a real stand out piece, and your definitely headed in the right direction! Keep it up!

You are correct in that I left some finishing work, especially with Tor's facial features, and also the mounted weapon. I intended to dry-brush some highlights but felt like I'd do more harm than good. I was actually happy enough with the skin colour effect I attained using a coat of gore grunta fur over what was a plain yellow base. I intend to do better in future.

Thanks for the input
