So, every 2.0 book had some Path to Glory content in it, up to and including Soulblight Gravelords.

Looking over every AoS 3.0 review I can find, it doesn't look like the new Path to Glory interacts with this content at all! There's a Veteran Ability table that units can pick from when they rank up, which is effectively the same thing, but there's no note like "oh hey, look at your battletome. When you rank up, you can pick from an appropriate table there!"

Am I missing something? Does anybody have an early book, or got a better look at Path to Glory 3.0 than I did? Unless Soulblight Gravelords was supposed to release a lot earlier than AoS 3.0, I don't see the point in wasting space on pages that will be promptly ignored by the new edition, considering I believe it's supposed to be built with 3.0 in mind.

2+Tough has a good overview of the new system. Seems very much a reset with new supplemental material coming in tomes and battlepacks.

The PtG content for battletomes has been minimum-effort stuff for a while now, it was pretty clear 3rd was going to replace it.

Kind of a bummer. The "Veteran Abilities" I've seen aren't super inspiring. I mean, neither are the PtG unit upgrades in the books for the most part but at least they're there for more options!

Each tome and narrative expansion will add to the options you can use.

Like sisters was supposed? Having pages of rules dumped entirely in launch of 9e 6 months later

Don't believe "with X in mind")

(and what's with all those .0's in editions?-)

It is pretty clear several elements of recent battletomes and SGL in particular were very much designed in 3rd in mind. That the PtG content in battletomes dropped to minimal effort, cut & paste jobs is perhaps the most obvious; it made it clear that not only was 3rd imminent but it would render the old PtG content obsolete.

I haven't followed the new PtG stuff. Is it like 40ks Crusade?

Yes, with a few new dimensions such as keeping territories and fortresses.

Amazing thanks. That was the part I was looking forward to the most.

it's pretty flavorless at the moment before new battle tomes coem in to add the spice to their own factions.

Something of a bummer if your book is staring at 2 or even 3 years before their update though.

I will say the best thing GW could do for MONEY is 2-3 months time?

Produce a Path to Glory book which literally has ALL the faction rules etc. in it and just reprint bits in the relevant battletomes when they get redone.

Because the biggest flaw of 40k's Crusade is that while it's a wonderful system and amazingly flavourful for...some...

It's terrible for others who may not be looking at a Codex for 2 years or so so are stuck with the generic tripe while others get amazing flavourful abilities and perks.

They did it with first edition PtG and IMO worked well, hopefully they do the same again.

Yep. By putting all the faction rules etc. in a single book that would actually be a kindness to the community as well.

I got rapidly burned out and ended up selling off all 40k due to two factors - Space Marine burn out (every single fething Codex for the first 6 months is Space Marines, Space Marines and Space Marines - meanwhile CSM get to sit there like bottom of the barrel tripe) and Crusade Creep - where anyone who got a new Codex had so many unique rules, objectives etc. for Crusade. So of course it's fun as all hell for them. Older book? Same sad generic options. Not only are you being slowly power creeped by newer books but your narrative is basically being stifled - kinda sucks that a SM character can progress along all the way to a Dreadnought while your CSM character just....stays generic.

I do hope they're smart enough to try and avoid that. Sure, you might need to do a PtG supplement every year or so that brings in new factions or books and their rules.

But that's better than having some factions immediately get expanded content while others flounder in lacklustre genericism for years.
