...based on an idea you had for one, what would you want?

I'd like to see one where a reasonable IG force ends up going to war with the DKoK because the DKoK are actually insane fanatics that need to be reigned in sometimes. Remember that story there they beat a rebellion then began shelling the hive city, and shelled it for years and years, even after it surrendered, even after there was no life left in it, for years after it was completely dead?

That wasn't badass, that wasn't cool, that was simply put treasonous stupidity and incompetence. First off the surrendered populace could have been put to work as slave labor or forced into penal legions as suicide troops, they could have been a useful resource for the imperium, the DKoK wasted what could have been a useful resource.

Also, how many rounds of perfectly good ordnance did they waste? Rounds that could have stopped an ork invasion, crushed a GSC uprising, smashed a chaos titan?

A novel of gaunt's ghosts fighting along side a DKoK regiment, and after achieving victory seeing the DKs start a wholly excessive and intolerable level of retribution against the populace to heinous it drives the first and only to order them to stand down, leading to a fratricidal battle between them could be good.

Replace the ig forces with salamnders and iron hands for some marine on marine action.

And yes, i said it before, a savlar chemdog novel that would have the chemdogs dragged into a war on a planet being invaded by chaos, ending with them looting both sides and building uop enough force to attack both sides while they were weak and destroy them both, taking the planet for themselves and being greeted as liberators by the populace. At some point in the novel a chemdog explains to a dying commissar he's looting "Nah, we're not on yer side or theirs. See, we don't have ta choose sides, both sides treat us like dogs so it don't matter ta us which wins. Plus, see, most people have ta choose a side cuz they can;t hate everyone. Not us, da way we wuz raised an treater, we got enough hate for you and them, we don't need to choose who ta hate and who not to."

Amd in the end the chemdogs liberate the planet from both and more or less turn it into a free for all. The population is better off than they would have been under either side.

One ambitious idea I think about a lot is an elaborate heist (perhaps Inquisition-sanctioned, but with a crew of people from all walks of life, in the style of a Dark Heresy game), set in a hive city, against a backdrop of civil unrest that may soon turn into a full-blown revolution. The protagonists have to steal something important from the upper hive, perhaps belonging to an almost untouchable noble, and realize that the mayhem that's about to go down will be the perfect opportunity to enact their plan. The story would also be an exploration of the various classes of the hive: the nobles trying to hold onto power via increasingly violent means, the middle class nervously wondering how the chips will fall, the working class forming the bulk of the revolutionaries, and the underhive gangers either joining the revolution or cynically trying to take advantage of it to further their own ends.

I'd fight a Crusade campaign and right the book of what actually happened on the table.

I'd like to see novels that actually reflect the game. Not "Joe the Marine just waded through 3000 massed cultists and tore a Daemon in half."

Or "300 Sisters and 2000 guardsmen are losing a battle against a Genestealer Cult until five Marines show up and everything works out."

I would LOVE to see someone undo the "Spear of Telesto" garbage fire James Swallow used to pretty much wreck modern Blood Angels lore when he did what is now the Blood Angels Omnibus.

The high-points for anyone unfamiliar - The book opens with Blood Angels fighting Blood Angels because lolKaOsmAgIks! and just goes downhill form there. Tycho is in it for 3 whole pages where he is used as a patsy for a no-named Inquisitor to help unleash a Lord Of Change. Meanwhile, the BLood Angels have undergone a schism with half of them essentially turning traitor. Mephiston knows this but remains aloof and mysterious (and acting much more like a Dark Angel than the freaking LORD OF DEATH that he is) and two full novels are spent watching Blood Angels kill each other. It's like they said "We want someone to write about the Blood Angels, but it has to be someone who HATES the Blood Angels" and then they gave James a brief that essentially said "you must use at least two of the main BA characters, and you must absolutely dump on them at every opportunity. Try your best to just ruin the chapter for anyone who might like them." I'm not normally that hard on books but man, they were just so TERRIBLE.

So I had an idea where that entire series of events turns out to be a "vision" planted in a radical Inquisitor's mind by Tzeentch, and he rounds up the Red Hunters to go stop this from happening. Add in some Admech for the part where they uncover the actual Spear and sprinkle in some Tzeentch demonry to go along with it and you not only have the makings of a fun novel, but you fix what is possibly the worst single mistake BL has made outside of some of C.S. Goto's back-flipping terminators ....

I want to see the Eldar for once drop the idiot ball. GW's never been able to figure out how to write a story for them where the whole plot doesn't utterly blindside the Farseers.

my proposal would actually be an anthology.. It'd be about a space Marine Chapter and basicly tell the story of the chapter across sucessive chapter masters. start with the founding of the chapter and slowly move up towards present day.

Oooh! Do the Blood Ravens anthology, start off fleeing Prospero right before the Space Wolves show up and show them slowly forgetting their heritage over the milennia.

I'd wanna specificly AVOID a chapter with a "mysterious past" I'd proably push a brand new chapter. specificly so we should show things like how a founding occurs, etc. (it would also enable me to adjust the length of the story as my requirements)

if you've ever read the Forgotten Realms novels "Cormyr: A novel" by Ed Greenwood https://www.amazon.ca/Cormyr-Novel-Saga-Ed-Greenwood-ebook/dp/B0060B6IMC/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=cormyr+a+novel&qid=1623894865&sr=8-1

or Evermeet Island of the elves. By Elaine Cunningham https://www.amazon.ca/Evermeet-Island-Forgotten-Realms-Stand-Alone-ebook/dp/B0060B6I86/ref=reads_cwrtbar_1/134-0642246-8844049?pd_rd_w=cS3kx&pf_rd_p=96f2c0ec-df6c-4717-9bec-1c52e465796d&pf_rd_r=AAA8QVFB1JM6GZEEHS1V&pd_rd_r=263c1105-d39b-4e6e-8236-704a727585e2&pd_rd_wg=zOUIZ&pd_rd_i=B0060B6I86&psc=1

those are kinda the general stories I'd wanna use as a template.

It's hard to write a character who seems to always be one step ahead of all their enemies even though the enemy in question seems to have always more resources or advantages, but it has been done in the past. It's the entire premise of Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Arsène Lupin, Colombo and so many others. It's actually a staple of mystery novels. Eldar deserves to be presented like that; devilishly intelligent and foresighted people who trump powerful opposition using their wit and calculated strikes.

I feel like the Asurmen and Jain Zar novels did an alright job of this. Granted, they did that partially by introducing the idea that Phoenix Lords passively mess up the skein ("fate") and partially by showing active disagreements between farseers (Eldrad and what's her face from Jain Zar's novel).
Basically, the novels are about eldar that don't actively have a farseer support structure in place. Valedor mostly succeeded here too. The farseers have a pretty good idea of what's going on; their setbacks are largely the result of the hubris of non-seers Leroy Jenkins'ing their way into the situation. Although I suppose that last bit is still sort of idiot ball-worthy.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

A new Ynnari book, perhaps. Phoenix Rising was nothing but an evidence of how GW was working too hard to keep the super duper grim dark aura.

Xenos aside, I’d like a novel focusing on Trajaan Valoris, it seemed like he’s not a traditional custodes and is more willing to contribute on the front lines. It would be interesting to know about his early interactions with Valdor and whether or not he’s still working with him. (The entire King in Yellow + Russ theory)

I'd like to see a Tau book about them meeting a new xenos race and how they go about it from the start. Maybe some attempts at diplomacy succeed while others fail.

Maybe it turns out that there's an inquisitor or rogue trader actively trying to sabotage the tau diplomats.

For years now, I've wanted to write a Romeo & Juliet style story in Commorragh. Not so much about the romance, but the "Two households, both alike in dignity (In fair Commorragh, where we lay our scene). From ancient grudge break to new mutiny..."

Two ancient warring Dark Eldar houses trying to murder one another, while two of their scions try to work together to screw over all their other relatives and go their own way, making their own warband.

It would sell exactly three copies, and I'd be fired for the graphic scenes of torture/evil romance, etc. but it'd be a killer story if I could pull it off.

How about a tau like novel written from the POV of a human who is on an imperial world taken by the tau in self defense becauser it was being used to attack them constantly and how he over years comes to lose his hate of the tau and eventually embrace their way of life?

A Tau/human buddy cop, detective novel. It would take place on a once imperial world that has been colonized by the Tau for a few generations now. A new initiative is put forward to better integrate humans and Tau societies through closer relationship within municipalities. In short, a human and Tau detective are made partners. They soon discover clues to a hidden cult. Either genestealers or chaos worshippers.

Basically a chance to see what life is like under Tau. Both the suffocating colonialism and the genuine efforts of individuals to make this melting pot of aliens function. We also don't get see how Tau function outside of combat. For example: is policing a function occupied by the water caste, the fire caste or both?

The only setting I have imagined so far is your stereotypical cyberpunk noodle house scene, but make a kroot food stand. add in a joke about Kroot being very offended by everyone asking where the meat comes from.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Valdor does a pretty darn good job with this. Off hand I can think of two instances where the Farseer is blinded but that's after the plan has been set in motion and the shadow in the warp is now close enough to affect their ability to read the skein. In short the blindsides are believable and able to be overcome instead of the usual "Who could have predicted we'd be destroyed in our own book in the most embarrassing manner possible?"

At the end of the Fabius bile trilogy he hides the “New Men” on a planet hidden by or in the warp (or maybe the web way I forget) which is fully loaded with supplies weapons etc. These are +1 humans basically, smarter, faster, a bit like Khan in Star Trek.

He did this to stop abbadon hunting them down and killing them.

There is actual a subtle one in the Vigilus books that I admit I was a little impressed with since GW is not known for doing it well. In one of the little sidebar reports about a battle between cultists and the Adeptus Mechanicus around an active volcano and power hub on p. 90 of Vigilus Defiant, it mentioned how the cultists lost but would likely have won if their deceased demagogue leader Vannadan had been present to unleash his Tzeentchian allied daemons upon the Adeptus Mechanicus. It isn't explicitly pointed out, so only someone paying attention would notice, but Vannadan was the same person that the Eldar had killed off earlier in the book on page 32 (and which the ignorant Imperium had then attacked the Eldar for, not knowing that the Eldar were slaughtering Chaos worshippers).

The Eldar efforts effectively made the Imperium win a battle they would have otherwise lost, and nobody in the Imperium was the wiser. Only the Eldar and astute readers would know about the disaster that was prevented.
