I have some kans and a dread that I've put LEDs inside of, does anyone with experience doing lighting know if a satin varnish will reduce light output? I've used contrast paints, so I definitely need a varnish. Perhaps a better question would be, if I mask off the areas of the LEDs (the "eyes"), will the unvarnished areas look funny? It's kind of impossible for me to just stick something in the holes and still be able to extract it without possibly messing up the lights, so has anyone done a model that they partially varnished for any reason?

I'm also really new to varnishing, so even any input on satin varnish use (I specifically do want satin, for aesthetic reasons) would be welcome.

Satin varnish shouldn't affect light output too much. It might diffuse the light a bit more, but if it affected the light too much, it would also obscure the paint below, and I doubt it does that.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Alternatively it should be fine to just mask off the LEDs
