Subject: War of the Worlds (2019 Gabriel Byrne version) TV show on Disney+ (in UK)

So I have just finished Season 1 of War of the Worlds.
This is the 2019 TV show starring Gabriel Byrne that has just aired in UK on Disney+. Obviously it's been out in the States for a while and Season 2 hits the UK next month.
So, it starts off like the original book, with some minor changes in Episode 1. Then it goes totally off book and, as far as I can tell, has little to do with the original source material aside from some generic themes.
It's a French co-production and is set in Northern France and London for the most part.
Despite going totally off book it's still a more faithful adaptation than the awful BBC version, lol.
As a sci-fi series it's not bad tbh. More like The Walking Dead with aliens than the actual book, as it deals with the survivors and the aftermath after the initial first wave of the attack.
I actually quite enjoyed it though and binged the entire first series in one sitting.
Definitely not without it's flaws though. Seem to be an awful lot of guns available in London for some reason, which is unrealistic. And seems odd that armed civilians are better at killing than trained soldiers....
But it was a pleasant few hours watching. Anybody else watched it?

OK, so just watched the end of Season 2 (last episode in UK ran last Friday).
Although very predictable (I guessed where it was going very early in Season 1) I quite enjoyed the end.
However, I think this would have been a good place to end the series as it wrapped things up nicely.
Not sure Season 3 (which has been green lit) is necessary or what it could possibly add.

I just started watching this…. only a couple of episodes in but wow is it bleak.
It is like watching Threads but with aliens instead of nukes.
At first I liked the slower, more drama less blockbuster adventure, opening but I am struggling to actually like any of the characters and the military characters are criminally incompetent.

I saw most of it on Amazon Prime.
Then it went into one of their pay channels before I could watch the last few episodes. :(
It was OK. But not good enough for me to bother going to the effort to see the rest for free. And definitely not good enough to pay MORE for (I'm already paying for Prime!).
If it ever resurfaces for "free" on Prime I'll watch the rest of it on a slow evening. Otherwise? (Shrugs)

Just finished season 1. What a slog. I ended up temporarily turning to season 11 of the Walking Dead as it was not as depressing! However, I finally went back and finished my first serving of “depression stew”.
Not sure how I find the willpower to face season 2 yet.

S2 was interesting but not enough to keep me long enough to finish it.

OK, so the whole of Season 3 has now dropped on Disney+. I'm 1 episode in and it's taken a complete twist, but one that (so far) I am really enjoying.
It's now so far removed from the source material it's its own thing, but I like the new direction.

Is it enough of an uptick to slog through the remaining 5 episodes of S2 to get to?
I'm not above going full Liam Neeson on you if I'm led astray, so consider your answer...
