Hi,

I currently have a project where I want to build a 120 mm oval base with a kind of dense vegetation feel. Basically I want to try and form a little bumpy ground with paper mache and then have this covered with grass and lots of plants in between. I have some paper plants and bushes and stuff I want to put there, but am still in doupt how to achieve the "high grass" feel.

I have bought 12 mm static grass and a static grass applicator from Ziterdes (this thing here: https://www.tabletopempires.com.au/terrain-scenery-modelling-14/ziterdes-create-your-adventure-119/scenics-modelling-125/Ziterdes-Static-Model-Grass-Applicator-Empty). I tried it out on a test base and the result was... nothing. The grass did not stand up at all.
Can anybody give me some pointers how to do this? In an ideal world I would like to have the grass stand real high, like 8-12 mm, so 1/3-1/2 of a normal guardsmen. I saw that there are also some "electrical" static grass applicators. Do these work good? Or do you now of manufacturers that sell big patches of prepared static grass tufts (like >2cm² each or something)?

The funniest method I read of was a guy who put the grass on,
rubbed a balloon on his cat to build up the static charge,
then held the balloon over the base!
LOL

I usually just hold the base upside down after the application, tap it a few times, and blow gently across it

Oh Canada!

It really depends on what kind of 'dense vegetation' look you want, but I'd probably start by collecting a reference library of images. Then try to find scale supplies that match those pictures.

Real under story / dense foliage is made up of a lot of layers. Soil, rocks, mosses, dead plant matter, creeping foliage, vines, medium plants, etc. Everything competing for the available sunlight.

Static grass can be applied in multiple layers, not just once. Mixing up the lengths helps too.

I also am part of the tuft gang. Though generally when using normal static grass I go thinned down woodglue, tap a heavy amount of static grass, give it a bit of a pat down to make sure it sticks then give it a gentle blow to make it puff back up.

Generally variety is important, adding in some longer plants/grass made from straw broom bristles or other things makes it feel more real.

By the way, I followed your recommendations and got a really satisfying result. So thanks again
