I think they seem OK, but that is it.

The stabbing oruks are 18 points, 2 wounds, 2 attacks. So essentially you get 180 points for a '10 pack of goblins'. One positive thing though is that they come with spears, so all 20 attacks can attack. 180 points means you do not need to se reeinforcement slots on them.

I also like the shooting orks. 120 for 3 shooting models. They seem descent enough. But that is about it.

The swamp smoke +1 to charge -1 to charge in the shaman is good. What do you people think?

Kinda "eh" atm?
Stats & #s aside when I look at the models? I'm just not that inspired. I don't dislike them, but if I'm going to spend $$ I need to be more than neutral about the models. Maybe that'll change once I see more of their range & read their Tome. But for the moment....

For the most part, their rules are pretty underwhelming as is. Inflicting mortals on 6's to hit for an allegiance ability is only really good if you have a way to spam a lot of attacks or you have type of synergy with spells/relics that ups their damage for higher spikes. They're very expensive for a not very killy and not very defensive statline. I feel like we won't really see what their potential is like until the new Warclans book comes out and gives them all their subfactions and other goodies that make them an actual choice compared to Ironjawz/Bonesplitterz.

Sadly they just dont gel with me from a rules or design perspective. It's like they're trying to be big boy gloomspite, but losing a lot of the tiny vindictive charm of them. While being big and hard like ironjaws, but losing that gruff hammer it into shape attitude.

Personally imma just sit with my Ironjawz, even if they do lack some flair gameplay wise.

Yeah, the rules at the moment are not amazing, but this is a pre tome army we're looking at at the moment.

I really like them anyway. The aesthetic works way better for me than other existing Orcs, and so I'll be collecting an army for them.

Uuh...lol. never faced lumineth? They have essentially same thing. On less durable bodies.with just 1 mw rather than some having 2+

To be fair, lumineth have it as a baseline weapon rule for a lot of their warscrolls on TOP of allegiance abilities, and units like Sentinels and Wardens have spells that every units can cast multiple times during the hero phase to boost that up to happening on a 5+ instead of a 6. It's especially nasty for units like Sentinels where they can kite you and bring weight of numbers to proc it before you can even get into combat with them.

One thing about the Gutrippaz is that it seems fairly easy to guve the enemy minus -1 to hit. Beating leadership on 2d6 +2 to seems OK. Beating it on 2d6 +4 seems very doable. Any bad units that hits in 4+ will be very bad. That means they will need to trade good units into your battleline unit.

The problem is that you can't use it against a unit that's already in combat with them, so it's only ever good on the charge which is not always guaranteed for your unit.

They can use it in any charge face. Including your opponents charge phace. They can of course charge you with 2 units. But if they want to do that then fine.

Fair point, I misread that opening part. But I feel that the conditional -1 to hit is significantly weaker than having a 4+ save from an Ardboy with a 6+ FNP save from Big WAAAGH!, especially now that you can boost that to a 3+ from how mystic shield has been changed.

I'm not too worried about Gutrippaz at the moment. They're 20 wounds for 180pts that spit out 3 mortals per fight on average, and are battleline.

They're not the most exciting unit ever, but what they have is... fine. And I'm confident that the battletome will give the army as a whole and hopefully Gutrippaz a nudge further and that could easily put them into actually quite good territory.

Currently Ardboyz are a bit better for sure. Though you are spending reinforcements to get them above 5 models too.

I am absolutely sick of 6s to hit doing mortal wounds mechanics. Should be 6s to hit auto-wound. Bravery based mechanics are also a mech from me, as between death and daemons there are tons of armies out there that are rocking bravery 10 across the board. Bosses throwing out battleshock immunity continues the trend of battleshock being something one negates during the listbuilding phase.

That said I like their basic stats for not being outrageous, I really like the shaman for how his rules impact the battlefield, and I like how the little henchmen work as a mechanic; they are fun and flavorful. I also like that the number of abilities was kept restrained rather than every unit having 2-3 special things.

I hate army wide battleshock immunity. Its immunity to a whole phase, its ridiculous. Fair enough some armies having a decent amount of Bravery 10 where appropriate. But immunity is really dumb. It's like having shooting phase immunity.

Especially as failing battleshock isn't just being scared and running away. It's also anything from a tactical withdrawal to force of will of the opponent causing the magic propelling the creatures to weaken.

Haven't seen the rules for the kruleboyz, but from the teaser, they look fine, not great, but fine.

I really love their design though and will probably be collecting a force of them in the future. I will not be buying the Dominion box though since I have zero interest for Stormcast Eternals neither do any of my friends.

I'm interested to see the full rules in their battletome, and what other units they have coming out.

As it stands, the models are gorgeous! But, it's hard to judge strengths on the starter box alone.

They definitely feel like they're missing some more army-wide rules. Bonesplitterz and Ironjawz both have 3-4 so I assume once the new tome comes out we'll see what they are.

One of the rumours/leaks from the sources that leaked every else that's come true mentioned them having ambush and outflank mechanics, sounded almost GSC-like.

I got to say from an assembly perspective the lines on the spruces are quite invisible on the orks, because they are in seams. (Benefit of having ragged cloaks.) And to be monopose there is greta variety in how they pose.

Yeah, most newer models are really good for this. It's pretty incredible what they can do these days.

I love the models but the stats/points seem very underwhelming. Especially the Gutrippaz.

Not my cup of tea but I can see them being popular with Destruction players all the same. Useful for other games I guess?

Liked some aspects on the first dominion reveals but was a bit on the fence about them overall.

The new monster mounts look pretty mint though. The grot howdah is awesome and liking the mantrapper vibe they have.

Was a bit sad when they showed the mounted mirebrute as cant have one of those joining the rest of my troggoths. I figure they'll eventually release one unmounted someday.

How the play on the field idk, but that always varies a bit over the years anyway.

Aesthetically they are terrible. I don't play AoS so that's all I got. How do they reconcile that these are orks and they look so different from the other existing orks?

That’s generally my issue. On their own as their own thing they look totally fine. As part of the Warhammer Orc line they just don’t fit. I’m really curious if Ironjaws or Savage Orcs get any new models with the new book and what they’ll look like if they do, or if they’re being “First Borned”.

Greenskins as a racial group have always been affected physically by their environment. It's why trolls look different from rock trolls look different from River trolls, etc. It's why forest and "regular goblins" are ever so slightly larger than Night Goblins. It's why White Dwarf published Kevin Coleman's Goblin biology article that introduced 5-6 more goblinoid subspecies with a whole range of physical differences. It's why Goblins, Hobgoblins, and Gnoblars are so physically different. It's why Chaos Dwarves could create Black Orcs(which looked different from standard Orcs back in the pre-6th ed days) in the first place.

This is just them finally exploring it in the mainline Orc/Orruk race for once rather than only through Trolls and Goblins.

They really appeal to me on an aesthetic level. While they are lacking the brutish overly muscled look, they really fit into what I would imagine a swamp dwelling fantasy species to look like.
Their armor fits them as well - not to heavily armored to sink into the mud. The weapons remind me of LotR, but are still unique in an orky way.

I'm not 100% sold on the hobgrots - maybe a different skin color suits them better

I like the look of the Kruleboyz significantly more than Arboyz. That's an older kit of course. But the point being, to my eye Ironjawz were all over the palce aesthetically. Ardboyz next to Brutes just looks so odd to me.

At least Kruleboyz as a sub faction will look consistent, and in my opinion they look fantastic too. Got my hands on some and been assembling them today.
