Hello!

Just checking in to see if anyone has played COC. In my local area (DC area) we've got a small (very small) group that runs it and it's been a blast so far. Anyone else have any experience with it?

Only played it once, and that was at a convention while I had a massive migraine.

But I intentionally build my infantry squads that get used in local Bolt Action games so that they match CoC platoon lists, and I'm excited for the release of Wargames Atlantic's WW1/WW2 French so I can pit them against a EW German Platoon I built for use in an Invasion of Poland campian.

I would really like to play it more often. I think the rules can be a little obtuse while looking at them, but they shake out during gameplay.

I do think it could maybe do with a second edition in a year or two. That's a decade's worth of rules writing experience and FAQ answers they could use.

Agreed on the 2nd edition part. There's a few fuzzy places that need the FAQ answers to be incorporated.

The attitude I like when questions DO come up is "play the period." I.E. if the answer is unclear, look to real history and choose the most historical answer. I haven't found a community that espouses that answer more than CoC does.

However, I also think that can drive away players looking for a more concrete answer. Do you think that's a problem, or a virtue? Or a bit of both?

I definitely think it's a reason why wargamers tend to fall into one of two camps; loving or hating TFL rules!

I would expect it's a bit of both. It may be a problem for players more use to concrete answers, but for players who either know the period the rules are meant for, or are willing to do some research, the answers usually become clear.

I've only watched videos. These rules look interesting enough. I really like the concept of the patrol phase. My big concern is that these rules do not appear to accommodate larger games and/or games with multiple people per side. Specifically, the patrol phase and command dice pool for 2-3 people with a platoon, or so.

I love their What a Tanker! rules. That game is great to just kick back and let tanks pound on each other. That game is superbly written to handle large amounts of tanks/players. I regularly run games with up to 6 people per side, running 1 or 2 tanks each.
