Age of Sigmar isn't nearly as popular as 40K at my FLGS, but I'd still like to play with a small force. I know 3e battletomes aren't out yet, but based on games you've played so far how well does the game play at low point values? Does the GHB have missions specific to small games? If so, how many points are they played at? Are some factions really weak or strong at this level?

"Show me where it says that in the codex!" said Learchus.
"You know brother that I cannot." said Uriel.

Not played yet, but can answer part of it:

They do not have missions specific to different point values, its just one set of missions.

There are tweaks to how many of different units you need/are allowed, how many reinforcements and allies you're allowed, and so on.

I dont think theres any reason to think the situation will be much different to 2e, in that the lower you take the points below 2k the more swingy it will get and certain armies will find low points much easier to build strong armies in than others (eg fitting key units for synergies while still having enough models to take advantage of those synergies).

They have added a rule that no one unit can be more than half the total points in a list, which deals with a lot of problem elements at low levels.

In my experience, AoS starts to break down below 1000 points. At 1000 there is enough to get into the gameplay but below that there just aren't enough pieces to make for a complete game, so to speak. 500 or 750 point games are still useful for learning & teaching though.

Low point games can be a lot of fun if both sides aren't trying to break the game.

In my campaigns we house ruled at < 1000 pt games all of the units had to be min sized.

It didn't solve the issues completely but it went a long way.

Some factions are really weak or really strong at 2000 points, so presumably the same is true at 500, 1000, 1500, 2500, 3000, etc as well.

The more I hear about the new rules the longer it sounds like our list of House Rules is going to be this time....

My community thinks it's a great change but to each their own.

Well one benefit from aos3 being about killing and tabling over objectives is one scenario ls much like others. Biggest thing that matters is deployment zone

Where did you get that idea? Objectives are highly relevant.

Have not tried yet, but from experience with it at 2k and from 0k experience with MANY games from 500-1500 and even more for 2k using smaller tables.

500 (or 600)- about 700 is mostly ok, once you go over 700pts on that small of a table it gets harder and harder to balance. Also smaller games has a LOT more rock, paper, scissors matchups. Worst off, smaller games 1 super good unit could be too good and just ruins the game for everyone without a super units.

Over all it can be unbalanced, but IMO it can be very fun. Make sure you talk to your opponents as to what type of game you want, this is even more important at 1k and less.

Once you get over 1k the game is in a much better state.
