We've got a mission for you, soldier!
Rampart Third Edition will land on Kickstarter this Fall! Before we will jump into the new battlefield, let's talk out the objective. We've created a pre-campaign survey to collect your feedback on the previous and the upcoming edition.

For the first time, Rampart will include a complete modular battlefield! Inside our survey, you'll find an exclusive first look at the concepts of new Wall Themes. Choose settings perfect for your squad, find cover and play the objective! Take a step on "Military Base" or explore the area with "Sacred Grounds" floor tiles. The choice is yours, soldier. We're counting on you!

Click the link down below to fill out the survey. Your responses will help us to create the most immersive and functional wargaming terrain.
Many thanks, and see you at another briefing!

Temple of the Damned is of most interest to me so long as they keep it neutral enough in design to work in both fantasy and sci-fi settings

They are also planning 5 inch x 5 inch tiles - I guess this is the size limit of their tooling machines.

Sad there's not a Kazmi extension, but I guess they may have decided D&L is fantasy and Rampart is SF etc

I'm most interested in the wasteland/ork fort, I'd get oodles of that. The rest is just... more stuff for my terrain addiction, but not really exciting.

5" tiles sound awkward, but if they want to service both classic and nu-GW table sizes there's no good tile size anyway, might as well do whatever is easiest to manufacture and we'll have to fudge an inch up or down in any case. But even at Archon prices, I doubt a table's worth of tiles will be an interesting purchase for many. Maybe just enough for a Kill Team board.

I asked for 6" tiles. Many gaming tables are in square feet.

Wasteland's great for post-apoc wargaming, and the cathedrals look good for fantasy wargaming (eg. Frostgrave).

Archon's going to throw in a bunch of SG's, I'm sure. From the survey, they may even have some miniatures, like they did with Dungeons and Lasers. Gonna guess the mini's are from their Starcide line...

6” tiles can’t happen with their current machines the maximum usable width with their current sprues is 5”. Each 5”x5” tile is 1 sprue. The max length is 9.5” so they can’t even get 2 tiles on one sprue. I’d prefer 6” tiles too but they are limited unless they buy new machines and I dont think the KS would justify the cost.

With the new Ork stuff the wasteland set might be popular.

Maybe they could do 8x8 tiles in two halves then, that'd hit most of the relevant table sizes.

Just measured the larger sprues and a 4" x 8" size tile will fit in it easily, with some room for stretch goal pieces. This would be a MUCH better size
Have added a 4" x 8" comment in the comment box at the bottom of the online poll. If you think this is a good idea, please add it when you fill out the poll!

Also added that a sci-fi townspeople set would be awesome

I am only really interested in Kazuni Temple terrain and miniatures so filled out the survey accordingly. However, generic sci-fi civilians might be interesting depending on the aesthetic. I use Battle Systems terrain for my sci-fi gaming but interesting minis might work with my Core Space game.

I'd prefer the plain city tiles with optional bits to add to them rather than molded on details. Also if Archon is reading needs a chain link fence please.

What are the principal differences between their Rampart and Dungeons&Lasers lines?

Rampart is free-standing buildings for wargaming, D&L is dungeon interiors for roleplaying. If you want to be slightly philosophical with Rampart the gameplay happens on the outside of the pieces and with D&L on the inside. The lines aren't physically compatible.

Thank you, Blackfang. Appears I should have gone w/ Rampart rather than D&L3 for my cheap tabletop skirmish set-ups. Will sell off the D&L tiled terrain but keep its scatter and minis.

Looking forward to the KS in November.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

My reply:

More variety of basic walls, the last thing you want is excessive copypasta. This is doubly so with non generic pieces like Wasteland Outpost, there is a practical limit to how many times you can use the same wall if it has lots of detail. So cut down on the detail of the walls and increase the number of things you can glue to them. So for Wasteland outpost have several walls made of corrugated steel but without5 extra panelling, Then add several sheets of corrugated panel of all sizes that you can glue to the individual pieces to make them all different.
As a general rule the more specific the detail the less it should be repeated, it should not be molded on, and need not be a plug in, it is Ok to glue on the rarer details yourself and leave the plug spaces for regular details like lighting and supports.

Finally leave the goblins off the sprue, and if you make only a single tree trunk don't bury a skeleton in it, seated women don't use skeletons as cushions and not every mirror needs a ghost or snake coming out of it. Not every bed needs teeth (you eventually learned that one). Cut the weird stuff from the extras, add useful stuff you would expect to see a lot of, and get the scale right. Stop repeating the same gak , one nuke was fine, we don't need more. Statues are ok, but why must they have weird shapes for heads. etc etc

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Actually I'm getting the feeling this will be a modest campaign and we won't see new themes besides the concrete walls. Since that initial 6 or so theme reveal we've seen nothing of any theme but concrete.

This really needs some filler pieces to cover over the plug holes on the corners and the gap between floors on the outsides of the walls. But otherwise looks fantastic.

Good to see they chose "Ruined City" as the theme. It's pretty rare, as far as terrain goes. Not many places out there making that kind of terrain.

I picked up a couple boxes of the Kazumi jungle temple sets. Honestly greatly impressed with the wall portion of the terrain sets, but not the biggest fan of how the floors mount.

The floors on those sets being mounted to the walls by hangars that go into the wall column/joint sections is indeed really restrictive for building towers, or mostly enclosed buildings.

These new fairly generic looking urban building seem to solve that issue, but really don't fit into what it was that I wanted to the jungle temple for.

Thankfully I was/am building wooden catwalks for use in multi-level games of Warcry/Mordheim/Legion... so will be pinning wooden floors to the jungle temple walls to match the catwalks I am making.

Still find great value in the sets for what I paid at the late backer pledge, but probably would have been disappointed in them at full retail.

I was wondering today about the KS and voila Dakka has my back!

I'm not very interested in the new walls but probably I'll join to get a Kazumi set and the extras.

Guess again, we turn up for a few sprues of walls and end up with an extra five sprues of bitz on top of the walls we asked for. And a tank. And some random stuff. And buy in options from previous Kickstarters.
Archon doesn't do 'light on content'.

I have to admit I wonder sometimes how they're okay with tooling a dozen different sprues just for free stretch goals but are so slow to add new variant core content after the initial offer.

Archon overreach but the core economics are good, so they stick with it.

Their main errors are on mixing sprue content which causes waste later.
They are learning not to do this.

Tooling is a once done is done state and Archon invested heavily in tooling architecture so they can afford this.

Rampart has its own foibles but they improved the base model with D&L with an evolving methodology for adding content which uses one off sprue designs as entire new sets.

Rampart looks to be evolving too, with tile beds and roof sections. Rampart walkways were badly conceived, worked poorly if at all and was generally replaced by homebrew card roofing for most applications. Archon seems to be learning from this and making practical roofing for their building sets.

Once they get this right they can potentially mix themes where appropriate. Currently Rampart terrain does not mix too well, even though the pieces are physically interchangable. Newer sets might well blend better.

I spoke with Archon staff at Spiele in Essen last week but sadly none of the management was there. Untried to express a lot of the sentiments I have read on here to the poor chap that got stuck dealing with me the longest.

Seems to me despite my love for Kazumi Temple, it has done very badly in sales… I think we are unlikely to see much Kazumi in this new KS. And I am not convinced at this stage that the “generic floors” they are doing will be generic enough to work with our Kazumi bits. Which is a shame as the current Kazumi floors are terrible.

If I was doing post-apoc this new Rampart KS would be more exciting as we use Battle System terrain for our sci-fi.

I didn’t even know Kazumi temple existed, didn’t see it on there website.
But it looks really specific looking it up, so I am not surprised.

Being so specific (and not much use for 40k) it's obviously going to be one of those things that some will love to bits and everyone else will be indifferent to.

As I play a lot of mesoamerican I adore the set, and it's the best value IMHO as it's all long, low walls so it covers more table than the "Sector Imperialis" knockoff styles.
