I'm working on a wargame table / miniature games battle map. I'm trying to scratch build as much of it as possible, mostly out of old random broken toy parts.
I've only just started and sort of finished my first scratch built model. It's no where near perfect however. I mean sure I'm happy with how it turned out and all, but I want to make a better and more realistic model next time. This model is a custom scratch built Anti-Air tank wreck which shot down a stealth fighter jet before it too was destroyed. The idea is that could work with both modern or sci-fi settings as a terrain object which blocks line of sight for ground troops and most land vehicles. Artillery vehicles and Mortar teams may still be allowed to fire over it, helicopters, air, and space craft of course can fly over this wreckage with ease. Mechs, Large robots / giant machines, and other characters / vehicles large or tall enough to see over it, jump over it, or even step over / past it is something I'm thinking about allowing some miniatures and vehicles to do during my custom games if player 2 is ok with that. During my solo my games I guess that's up to me. Personally while I like my model, I feel it is a very low quality model. But since it is my first, I still put a lot of time and effort into it. I suppose it's a start, and perhaps I can get better at making scratch built terrain models / objects in the future with more practice. Oh, I also found some cool rocks on the sidewalk today. I might add them to this model to add more natural features, or save them for another time. Funny story, I couldn't find my super glue, so I settled for a very, very old bottle of a type of arts and craft glue called Tacky Glue, it kind of worked out in my favor because the old glue is solid enough to form almost natural looking terrain features, and still keep most of the model glued together. But since it is such an old bottle, it was very difficult to work with. I have no idea where my super glue is but I might need to get new super glue anyway. The base of the model is literally just crunched up paper. I wanted to use clay for some terrain features, but I'm out of clay. I'll probably pick up some cheap clay at the dollar store and add it to the edges of the model to create a more natural landscape around it. Lastly, I used some kind of blue sand that I got from my grandma, for texture, it sort of looks like concrete rubble to me. I am going to experiment with other old broken toy parts to try to create other models I can use. My goal is to have a large, modern ruined city put together with models like this, lots of vehicle wreckage, mostly military vehicle wrecks, rusty old construction vehicles, and a lot of large industrial machinery. I uploaded this video of the project, it shows almost the entire process I took, and parts I used to build it. I'm thinking it should go well with Warhammer 40K, Star Wars Legion, and Halo or Superhero Heroclix miniatures. I think it's a little too small for Warhammer 40K however.

Edit: I tried to make an Industrial structure but it is kind of ugly, It will have to do for now but eventually I want to make it look at least somewhat decent. If anyone can help me out with some ideas for turning this model into something better, please let me know.
