Hey all,
I've never been one to soup armies. I've got a Night Lords army and love Belakor's new model and seems like he'd fill a large hole in my list which is needing a wrecking ball unit.
If I hypothetically wanted to have him ally in with my Night Lords, gauging from the latest reveals are we thinking I'd need to have a Patrol of Disciples of Belakor?
Many thanks !

Probably best just to use him as an HQ in an ordinary Daemons Patrol Detachment.

Isn't he a Lord of War now? But also Supreme Commander?

No, neither. He's an HQ.

I would really consider running him with your NL in a DoS army (Disciples of Shadow) army. I've been playing with it, and the army is no joke, there is a lot of defensive tech in that army that can keep a lot of important models alive long enough to do their job.
Is it top tier, trash admech and drukhari on-site? Well, no, I don't think so, though in the hands of a more capable player than myself I could see it being good enough to give it a go.
Right now I'm testing:
Belakor
Master of Possession
Lord Discordnant (gave him the relic, he has a mark of khorne, and talisman of burning blood)
3 min units of cultists
2 greater possessed
2 10 man units of possessed
2 venom crawlers
2 rhinos
a hellbrute with mm
and a unit of havocs with lascannons.
I'm not completely sold on the list, of course, i think there are a lot of improvements that can be made, but Blessings of Belakor to stop a big shot that makes it through to a discordant or belakor himself, plus the defensive strat to make something unshootable unless it's within 12 or the closest model can save damage off of your key models.
What i don't like, and I'm waiting on the book to come in (stupid preorder taking until the 25th to get here) is if the MoP can take his delmonkin discipline or if he HAS to take the Noctis discipline.
I'm also not sold on the Helbrute, it feels like it would be better served as something else, i just don't know what yet, but overall, the army has done well against marines, and it did better than i thought against raider spam, I got harlequins with it, but I've lost to admit cause auto killing belakor with rangers is a thing and I'm learning how to position to keep him alive. I've overextended him twice now, and those were the mistakes that i should have prevented, but it is still difficult to pull off.
Just my .02
I know you asked a different question, but since you can use your NL in a DoS army, It might be worth a go.

I don't have the book yet, but I thought Disciples couldn't take Daemon Engines?

I don't have the book either, it's on the way, and you're right, I just double-checked it, and you sure cant. I think that's probably ok, to be honest because I haven't gotten a ton of mileage out of the venom crawlers, though to be honest, losing the discordant is going to sting a bit. I wonder how I will rework that...

IIRC you can take him without running disiples but I THIIINK you'll lose your legion trait if you do

well, honestly, I think I just drop in two twin volkite contemptors anyway. maybe if I have the points add another havoc unit with reaper chain cannons. not sure about that. Disappointed that I missed that, I try to be a bit more cautious about things like that. thanks for setting me straight. now i have 4 opponents i need to apologize for cheating too...

This is what I'm worried about. Not really fussed with disciples as I love all my night lords deep strike/terror tactics shenanigans. It's built for that so ideally just wanted him tacked on. Would even mind running a small second detachment with some tax troops

That's why the Daemons detachment is the way to go. If you run your army as Disciples of Be'lakor you'll lose access to all of the things that make your Night Lords...well, Night Lords.

You can put him in a patrol with a single unit of Nurglings and the only thing you'd be missing is -2 CP.
