When trying to come up with a list that uses a squad of super heavies, as i have 3 for my Vostroyans. I'm curious if other people have had success with similar lists, or if going the stormtrooper route isn't correct. This is a casual list and not intended for tournaments. The general idea is have the Hellhammers go pew pew and get pew pew back, while scions drop down using their "Aerial Drop" rule. Tech Priests (heal bots) are running along side the tanks, and the psyker is throwing the buffs when possible. Warlord is designed to help with command points since i'll be using at least 2 per turn, 1 for healing a vehicle, and 1 for "Firstborn Pride" (+1 to hit in shooting phase for 1 Vostroyan unit). also as a Vostroyan, all the LOW's weapons get extra 6 inches (even the rear facing Lasgun), which helps with the smaller boards for 9th ed.
Would it be better to run custom regiments for the LOW tanks?
Has anyone found success with this style of list from a different angle?
Is this the dumbest thing you've seen?
Thanks for any advice/critiques

I cannot speak to the effectiveness of super heavy tanks, but the custom regiment does not affect the scions. They only get a regimental trait if taken in one of the specific scion detachments in psychic awakening. I will say that none of the units in that detachment would break the regiment, so you could pick one of the scion regiments and get those bonuses.

I would also point out that you are paying extra points for BS3+ on the scions just to give them flamers, which are arguably worse than their regular guns. Give them volley guns, or plasma, or melta, or just leave them with regular hot shot guns.

@EmperorForearm

Thank you for the info about the custom doctrines, and yea good point about the flamers wasting the scions' bs, I was thinking they would be running/advancing around the board constantly since they are suppose to land near objectives, the other reason for flamers was points, 5 pts per flamer allowed two per squad without going over 2,000 points in the list. other options (according to battlescribe) is Hotshot volley guns and Grenade Launchers, and I've never had success with the launchers in previous editions

With Plasma Guns, each squad can get 1 with out breaking points limit. Another option would be to double up on hot shot volleys for the extra dakka (Heavy 4) since they are the same points cost. I might try that route and go with the Iotan Gorgonnes' tempestus doctrine for extra hits on 6's to hit.
