Hey All,

Possibly returning/reformed gamer here. During the lockdown last year i was finally motivated to take a look and re open all my wargaming stuff that had been packed away in the mid 90's. Most of which was historical in some form and that really did not re-ignite anything. Almost all of the historical mini's and rule sets triggered the "Someone somewhere around town must still be playing 15mm napoleonics...."

What did trigger the nostalgia though was my Laserburn figs and the GW stuff. Bloodbowl (Elfhelm Eagles ftw) and the league we used to run. 2nd edition Warhammer fantasy (about 50 lbs of metal, most of which was ordered direct from GW/Marauder back when you could custom order stuff) 40k, mostly Eldar but some unpainted marines. Early Necromunda - not sure they called it that back then though. Basically the standard array of things since you never really 1 single GW game. GW/Citadel/Marauder always had the best miniatures but rarely had the best rule sets. Always interesting, but driven by marketing and scope creep. Even in the 90's it was "he who has the most recent codex and units...usually wins".

Anyway - started to watch some you tube creators and slowly switch from "I gotta sell all this stuff.... does anyone really want an old RT dreadnought in the age of these plastic monstrosities? to.... Well painting and paints have come along way.... maybe i should see what my stuff can do now...". I am pretty sure that I am not the only one that went through this process over the last 18 months. Its super interesting to me to see that GW has in fact continued to hone their marketing skills and that the problems that we ran into - almost 30 years ago now - are the problems that many people still have, or are now experiencing for the first time.

However, none of that stopped me from getting a couple of SM combat patrol boxes and looking through all my old stuff to see what I could put together. We'll see how this all works out...

Hey bud, sounds like you're going into it with eyes wide open. GW is what it is innit, lotsa peeps take them way too seriously, but you got it figured out. Confrontation (?) might have been the proto-type name for necromunda.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Hello and welcome to Dakka. Feel free to hang onto your metal minis, I prefer some of mine to the plastic updates.
