Finished this novel a few days ago. An enjoyable adventure story.

I went in with no knowledge of the plot, and like the goon that I am, fully judged the book by its cover. I had thought that it would be a Stormcast centric hammertime action novel to tie it into the boxed set of the same name. Boy was I suprised to find that almost 2/3rd of it was from a regular human perspective. And it appears to be a self contained tale with no tie-in to the boxed set.

Its a ground eye view of what is involved in a Dawnbringer Crusade. From how they are formed, how the plan is made and how all of the elements work together to ultimately form a self sustaining city. It really gives a good sense of how perilous these ventures are, and how dangerous Ghur can be. The Kraken attack was pretty crazy, almost like something out of a horror film.

There is a Stormcast perspective character, and he’s something quite different than we’re used to. Its a Knight-Arcanum who seemingly exists in two places at once, which gives him a unique perspective.

The Kruleboyz feature heavily towards the latter third of the book, and they are clearly a breed apart from previous incarnations of Orruks that we’ve met before in AoS. And they live up to their namesake, for sure. I would’ve preferred a bit more of the Kruleboyz, though. Maybe even get their own perspective character, but alas its just the human and SCE.

All in all, a great primer on Dawnbringer Crusades for those who wanted more after reading their lore in the Corebook, as well as a good introduction the the Kruleboyz.

about half dopne so far, I went into this as my first AOS novel, and wow I'm impressed. I was expecting, likewise basicly a AOS "tie in novel"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
