If im not mistaken, this is how its worded:

A player controls an objective marker if they have any models with this ability withing range of that objective marker, even if there are more enemy models withing range of that objective marker. If an enemy model within range of an objective marker also has this ability (or a similar ability), then the objective marker is controlled by the player who has the most models within range of that objective marker as normal.

Now i have always played it with me, having 5 boys and my enemy having 1 space marine and 5 terminators, that would mean i won the objective, because i had 5 obsec dudes, and he only had 1.

But reading over the ability despite the fact that 9th has been out for a bit of time, it kinda makes me wonder if i understood it correctly.

As i read it, having your obsec unit and your opponents obsec unit on an objective, basically removes the obsec for both and its then down to the amount of models?

Has there been an FAQ on this? Because as i read it now, i could have 1 ork boy who is obsec and 5 killa kanz on an objective and i would win that objective over 5 space marines who are all obsec.

Am i understanding it correctly? Or does the last part indicate that the one who controls the objective is the one with most Obsec models? Because it doesnt really say that.

Ive always played with who had most obsec units on an objective, unless we had no obsec units, then it was just down to pure numbers.

Obsec cancels out and the objective is held by the side with most models in range.

For my group the rule was clear. Our mistake always came in counting models in the unit within range of the marker. It's models within 3", not models in the unit.

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Pretty sure this rule was the same in 8th too. Though you're definitely not the first to misread it.

This is one of those rules that catches a lot of people out. I think intuitively most people assume the number of ObSec models should matter so they end up playing it wrong until it's pointed out. I'm even wondering of maybe it should be changed to match the incorrect interpretation if so many players assume that's how it is anyway.

I had always assumed that 2 models with obsec scored vs 1 model with obsec and 3 of his friends. I'm not sure if I agree with the above interpretation but I am thinking about it.

The important line by RAW, most important part bolded for emphasis: If an enemy model within range of an objective marker also has this ability (or a similar ability), then the objective marker is controlled by the player who has the most models within range of that objective marker as normal.

The rule specifically calls out that only a single enemy ObSec model is needed to enact the "player who has the most models" section. The other important part is that the "most models" section does NOT say "with this ability".

I had noticed that from earlier in the discussion. It's just never really arisen in my small group of friends.

Still, it's nice to know.
