At this point, I think Q is just messing with me...
https://deadline.com/2021/08/alex-kurtzman-mega-overall-deal-cbs-studios-secret-hideout-stephen-king-1234806977/
The agreement will keep Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout at CBS Studios through 2026, giving the studio exclusive rights to the company’s projects for all platforms, including a series adaptation of Stephen King’s short story “The New York Times at Special Bargain Rates.” Additionally, Kurtzman will remain at the helm of the growing Star Trek franchise for the next six years. Heather Kadin will continue to lead the Secret Hideout content team, along with SVP Aaron Baiers and director of development Robyn Johnson. Under the new deal, Secret Hideout will expand its ranks with additional executive hires.
If you're happy with current Trek then I suppose this is really good news. For me, not so much and Strange New Worlds is the only sliver of hope I have left for the IP.

The post-Nemesis novelverse (based on pre-JJ Trek continuity) is getting a trilogy called Star Trek Coda to wrap everything up. After that, I’m pretty much done with Trek.

I hate Abrams abominations and DISaster with a passion. Picard was ok but for the last and horrible episode. At this point I am only looking for some new trek because of a nostalgia factor, which is dimishing strongly with each new incarnation of the IP.

I enjoyed Lower Decks but not sure how long that is sustainable.
Only really interested in Picard season 2 because of Q but I may wait to hear how much of a role he actually plays in the season.

Picard does end on a bit of a strange point with the mega fleets opposing each other (which is a bit more cartoon weekend villain); however otherwise I really enjoyed it. Like DS9 it was a slower take that looks underneath the show and the polish of the Captains Chair and exploratory ships.
Like DS9 we got to see things just outside of starfleet as well as things that are a bit grimy within starfleet (which has always been there, it just generally got wrapped up at the end of a single episode).
It was also interesting to see Picard finding himself through a whole new power dynamic.

agreed. I liked Picard
and honestly anyone who thinks that the contract not being renewed means someone else will do "better trek" is kidding themselves. it'd just mean another long term hiatus.

On the bright side, I'm sure Mike and Rich from RLM will produce plenty of quality on-screen suffering thanks to six more years of Kurtzman desecrating the corpse of their beloved franchise.

I’m hoping that with Lower Decks they can do something similar to The Orville and develop the characters and do more “real” Star Trek plots, with the humour, wackiness and in jokes mixed in around the “real” stuff as appropriate. They already had that a bit in the last few episodes.
I don’t understand why studios can justify making dozens of “monster of the week” crime procedurals, but every sci-fi show now has to be some dark, epic, drawn-out cinematic experience. It works for some things (I love The Expanse), but can we not just have a crew exploring strange new worlds and finding new life, etc., etc.

The Expanse has the benefit of the source novels, of course.
