Hi all,

Question is basically the title. When a vampire is sired, does it automatically become a vampire of its sire's bloodline/dynasty? If a random Vrykos vampire grants "the gift" to a human, is this new vampire spawn a Vrykos vampire forever or can they eventually, in theory, break free from the thrall of their sire and maybe join the Kastelai?

While I'm sure allegiances can shift, I'm not sure if this would impact the Vampire itself. Would a sired-Vrykos-gone-Kastelai vampire exhibit the traits of a Vrykos vampire or a Kastelai vampire?

Not sure if there's any lore written that I'm not aware of, or if we can extrapolate from the Old World or anything.

Thanks!

From what I can tell if a mortal is given the Soulblight curse (vampirism) by a Vampire from Dynasty X, then they will always be a Vampire of Dysnaty X.
The Thirst manifests in different ways and grants different abilities.
Think of it like different strains of a virus. Virus strain A might give you a headache and nausea whereas strain B might give you something more akin to a cold.

That's what I thought. What confuses me mostly is the Avengorii dynasty, and Vengorian Lords.

Based on the names... I'd guess that Vengorian Lords are Lords of the Avengorii dynasty... but you can have a Kastelai Vengorian Lord, so I guess it's not linked to the dynasty at all and the name is just... a little confusingly close.

I probably should have used that example in the OP, but I honestly didn't think of it until now/remember my "gripe" with the Vengorian Lords.

2+ Toughs overviews seemed to draw a distinction between the more bloodline driven dynasties (Night, Blood, Vyrkos) and the more eclectic ( Kastelai, Avengorii)

He mentioned that the Kastelai recruit from other lines and the Avengorii are mutations/bestial nature overtaking them.

I was listening to it in the background so not 100% confident I got everything he was saying correct.

He seemed to be referencing the Battletome for the most part so I'll have a look through it to see if I can get page references for you.

EDIT: 4th paragraph on page 26 talks about Kastelai recruiting Vampires of other lines that can prove their worth.

5th paragraph on page 27 talks about the Avengorii rituals to turn untransformed Vampires into Vengorians. It's not explicit they must be of their lineage so a cool opportunity there.

The original vegetarian lords were vampires who thought it would be just swell to stand outside Nagashizzar when Nagash created the nadir and absorb the magical energy to become more powerful. Presumably all of the bloodlines had some individuals partaking in that.

Avengoraii are distinct because their VLords are mostly if not exclusively vegetarian lords.

I guess a secondary question to my initial question is... do the Legion of Blood/Night recruit non Lahmian/non Von Carstein bloodline vampires to their ranks?

Like, if they recruit a Vrykos then the Vyrkos' nature/bloodline would still shine through? Or are vampires of different dynasties averse to getting that 'close'?
(Obviously when Nagash demands it, Mannfred and Neferata will work together, but would a lesser member of the Night Legion trust a Vrykos/would a Vyrkos pledge loyalty to a Legion of Night vampire)

I would assume it is possible, vampires are individuals after all, but both LoB and LoN would most likely immediately send such an individual back as a double-agent. Were one to stick around they would be under extreme suspicion and most likely end up dead in short order via betrayal or assassination. But for someone wanting to write a narrative character the door is open.

That's a fair point. Starting to wish bloodlines were still an upgrade to individual vampires rather than an army sub-faction choice! Would open a lot more opportunities without the ludonarrative dissonance (yea, this guy is a Vyrkos double-agent double-spy working for the Legion of Blood to spy on the Legion of Night but secretly reporting to their Vyrkos sire/pack leader still... oh yea mechanically it's just a Legion of Night Vampire Lord)
