Hello DakkaDakka forum,

I have returned from a hobby hiatus of around 12 years, upon returning have ideas in mind for a new project! However I am in need of some help!

I am trying to find the means of purchasing some brass rod around 4mm in diameter with threaded end/ends. So far I am having no luck scouring the internet trying to find this, I have found similar produced by a lighting company for reference but unfortunately due to this being my first post am unable to link this..

Does anyone know where I would be able to find this in the desired diameter or at least a few mm in reduced size, or anywhere that I could possibly get this custom made?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards

I normally go to eBay for that stuff.

Threaded ends complicates stuff. You could thread them yourself, it's not hard, you just need the vice and cutter and stuff.

Brilliant!

I hadn't realised that I could cut the threads myself with a simple tool! I've found a set containing both a tap and die that will allow me to thread the brass myself!

Thank you for the assistance!

The only hard part about threading is getting the cutter on straight.
Depending on what you're using them for carefully eyeballing it is probably good enough though.

Search 'Threaded Brass Rod'. Mind you, a tap and die is a handy tool to have, so don't despair that you've wasted any money. It'll still be handy if you just want the ends threaded.

EDIT: Welcome to Dakka too!

A Tap and die set will stand you in good stead.

Many are designed to cut threads into steel or galvanised steel, so will do brass with ease (brass is a lot softer than steel, after all).

The upside of this is also, you can find nuts to match the threads because those tools are standardised.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
