Some of the Necron fluff (IIRC) suggests that they sometimes rule over non-Necron societies they've conquered, but I'm not an expert - I was curious, does anyone have any examples of non-Necron civilisations ruled over by conquering Necron forces? I don't mean short-term occupations, but multi-generational*, established states of Necron rule over other species. Is there anything firm out there?

*multi-generational for the subjects, not the rulers, of course

We don't really get a view into the Necron homeworlds or conquered ones but Indomitus gives a small idea of what might happen. The ruling caste of an Imperial world lives on a space station and gives up the planet below to the Necrons in order to survive as vassals. The planet is systematically exterminated until Ultramarines show up and war starts.
Don't get the book it's without a doubt the worst BL novel I've read even for a tie in.

I actually quite enjoyed Indomitus, though that's neither here nor there...
I guess that's the kind of thing that made me wonder about more long-term, established vassal societies to Necrons. Would they be building Necron monuments? Emulating Necron society? Or just trying to get on with things and hoping that their rulers don't visit too often? We're told that the Necrons want to once again rule the galaxy, I'm just curious as to what that would actually look like.

Dead Men Walking gives a good show of it actually. The Necrons take over a Hive, slaughter many of the inhabitants, and the rest are left alive as a slave caste. Some even began to worship them as gods, wearing crude metal skull masks to emulate the Necrons.

That sounds pretty interesting, I'd been meaning to read that anyway, thanks for the info.

That would be really easy to model with the chaos cultists and all the spare necron head fronts. I like the idea.
