First up waaaaaagh!!

I made the jump to orks, i am a 40k player and i like big armies... 12k tyranid swarm and 30k space marine raptors... Addicted to the plastic crack

So ive made a start on the backbone of an ork army

1 x ork war boss
60 x ork boyz
15 x ork nobz
1 x painboy
3 x deff dreads

I have read alot on orks but yet with new codex new beast snagga box my brain is in a world of pain.

Please assist - what makes a good 2k list, i will have a 5/10k army eventually but i want a good table top army ready....help dear sirs!! Suggestions ans advice!!

Must answer to an Orky Bro.

A good (every)k list start with the strategy you want to use.

If you want to win U need to use brain before stomach also For the new snagga.
They are cute but the main Core of them are not available for now so…. If you want to use them you Have to make them with some KitBashes.

Think before All about Secondary Objective You want to take.

Then think about your models.
Which Klan do you prefer? (Also in terms of bg)

I suggest you an horde army of goff.
And why not a patrol of wathever you Have in that 5/10k models. (Depending on what you need)

You Have a lot of Boyz so You can control board. The Center for sure and with a lot OBjSec guyz.
Behind them you can easily screen and hide a unit of Burna (Nobz/Lootas) for support without using cute (but expensive) Grots as shield .

Behind the lines You can use squig buggies (if you have) or 3 single MekGunz KmK/Bubble

I suggest you a Weird with daJump and the Deff in reserve and maybe a trukk/BW
If You have 1WBoss think about MArmour.
I personally prefer the profile.

Bikers is my preferite unit Now and I never use buggy…rather, 2*5 Kommandos is always for me a better choice.

If you watch some BReports online you can see a lot of player, using horde boyz army like in the past. You can be suggested
I don’t like this approach but we are Orks and we are crazy and every strategy could be functional. They win 70%of time so could be interesting for your list.

How much crazy are you general?
Give us more details for help you.
follow your Green heart and never stop doing lists and read the codex! There are always new things to discover

You seem to be going fluffy, I’d recommend a stock battlewagon, fits in with the theme perfectly. I also reccomend running goffs, really buffs boyz and other melee.

Welcome to the green side!

There are few universal truths to orks that you must adhere to, otherwise you end up with a list that isn't going to win many games.
1) No ork army can function without a decent amount of shooting. Orks have almost no staying power, every unit your opponent wants dead, will die. The only real defense is shooting dangerous enemy units to pieces before they cause too much damage, so make sure that at least half your army consists of shooting units. There is no such thing as enuff dakka.
2) Do not mix footsloggers and mech orks. Not only do you need to play into target saturation for defense, mechanized lists also are a lot faster than footsloggers, so you will end up with splitting your own army into two waves that your opponent can respond to one after another. Hammer and Anvil strategies don't work for orks. Last, but not least, there are two kinds of Waaagh! to chose from, one for each of those types.

What you have right now is mostly boyz, which sadly are in a bad shape with the codex that is being released next week (we know because there was a limited pre-release some time ago). However, not all is lost and if you aren't playing in a super-competitive environment you can probably make a decent goff army out of what you have. Goff work best with units that have powerful melee attacks, so your dreads already fit in well. Koptas, kommandoz or the new squighog riders would fit well, and obviously Ghazghkull Thrakka and is loyal companion Makari. Make sure to include at least some mobile elements like warbikers, stormboyz or kommandoz, otherwise you will have trouble scoring secondaries.
For shooting you can look towards mek guns, squigbuggies or the soon to be released kill rig. You dreads can also carry ranged weapons, but they alone will not be sufficient.

Alternatively, get a bunch of trukks (up to 3) for your boyz, maybe a battlewagon and then bolster your forces with buggies - especially the scrapjet and squigbuggy stand out in terms of power, but ork vehicles are decent these days.

Just ask away, most of Dakka's orks are hanging round there and will gladly help a fellow greenskin.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.
