I'm unclear if the T'au caste system is considered an integral part of the Greater Good, an optional part, or something separate altogether.

Are non-T'au converts (such as Gue'vesa) required to submit to the caste system once they join the T'au empire? Or would their induction into the fire caste, water caste, etc. be considered an honor?

They exist outside of it like other auxiliary races such as Kroot and Vespids. The Caste system is for T'au only.
