Hi.

Is there anyway to get a cheap vulture gunship or two? (Cheaper then forge world.)

Check eBay, trading sites, or Dakka's own Swap Shop and see if anyone is parting for a Vulture for cheap.

That's about the only legal way I can think of.

Kitbashing or scratch build would also work, if there is a way to do it.

The FW Vulture is built mostly from Valkyrie parts; the wings, tail booms, and cockpit assembly are pretty much the same. It's not a hugely difficult conversion if you have the scratchbuilding or 3d-printing skills to build the central hull.

i suspect anything you build based upon a valkyrie kit will turn out to be just as expensive as just buying the vulture when you figure in design and build time for the conversion

3rd Navy drop Command 3000pts air cavalry
117th tank company 5500pts

One way to have it be cost effective is make molds of the converted pieces so you can bang out multiple resin copies.

Apart from a complete scratchbuild, there's no real "cheap" way to get a Vulture gunship outside of nabbing a 2nd hand one at a lowball price.

As for Valkyrie parts?
You will need (at a minimum), both wings and tail booms, the rocket pods and probably missiles, too and the front of the fuselage (the cockpit end).
The vulture doesn't have the transport capacity, instead it has its one main turbine and jet engine in that spot. You would need to either source that or build it yourself.

I've seen people more or less just use a regular Valkyrie and hand wave the lack of a giant turbine.

The cockpit is very different as the Valkyrie doesn't have the chin-turret, and I'm not 100% sure if the Valk wings have 2 pairs of hardpoints. As others have said however, you could grab the Valk parts and scratchbuild the rest, or try eBay, Swap Shop or a Facebook group.

There are some great conversions out there using Valks and (mostly Russian) helicopters. But for the cost plus time its not cheaper than a vulture. Just looks better

The real question is.....since the real Vulture is sold out on FW, is that because of the glitch or because it is going away? For good or maybe to plastic????

GW is sitting on a gold mine for guard players and not mining. Planes, different gunships, different tanks etc. And of course the different regiments, rough riders, etc. So much potential, and all their resources going to Marines, not that I am complaining.

Either way, wait to see if the Vulture has been gakked or going to plastic.

I have 2 I just bought....le sigh.

There has been no indication that GW would make a plastic vulture. They don't really seem to be pushing gigantic aircraft in this edition... which I am kinda okay with because Valkyries are gigantic and hard to field multiples of.

I think I remember seeing an STL file on thingiverse for a vulture gunship. Know anybody with a 3D printer?

Because pirating models from GW is the way to keep them making stuff.

That's not pirating.

Stealing other people's ideas is still theft.

Ideas can't be copyrighted.

Only the execution of them.

Make a game of super humans wearing powered exoskeleton armor and call them Space Marines. See how that works out for you.

it will work just fine, 'space marines' can't be copyrighted, that's why they changed to adeptus astartes; there are loads of ideas being mimic around, GW is not the original of most of their brand concept.

I could make a starship troopers game, but it has been done a fair few times in different ways, so I would just be being derivative…

In correct. Yes, the term space marine cannot be copyrighted/trademarked.

But super powered exoskeleton wearing men called Space Marines can. The same way I can't make a super hero who dresses up like a bat and call him Bat Man. But I can make a criminal who carries a baseball bat and call him Bat Man.

Even if you don't want to go into the history of Sci Fi and the many examples of enhanced soldiers with powered armour, is the Halo games Spartan project recent enough and full of enough medically and bionically enhanced space marines with power armour for you?

A friend deorkified some dakkajets and added gattling guns from the punisher to the wing roots to use as vultures, ended up looking great.
