Opened up the AoS app to a notification thats its going legacy tomorrow. Bit of a disappointment but if finally came.
Not surprising theyre wanting to replace it with one of the new 40k's structure. But it was great having an official app that you could check warscrolls against.
Arent that keen on the 40k app as it is currently so will have to see on the new AoS one. But I imagine it'll be a bit janky at first. Hoping I can still see game wide warscolls and its just allegiance abilities hidden behind paywalls.
I suspect there will be a period with rather weak app support until it gets up to par.
From their end it makes sense. I paid for it once then just used the free one. How many people actually subscribed to the current one?

I wonder if they’ll keep charging the subscription fee for Azyr.

No the app is going away. GW won't support 2 apps at the same time.

Fingers crossed the new one is a worthy replacement. I have really, really enjoyed the current AoS app and used the hell out of it.

The notification said they will not, and I don't see a reason to mistrust it.

Im more upset to think that warscrolls will be no longer free since what we've seen from reboxed 3rd ed boxes have simplified warscrolls like 40k.
I hope they still publish all warscrolls for free.

Currently you can see all stat profiles and warhead on the 40k app, but you can’t see a unit’s special rules without having access to the book. A subscription gives you access to every 8th edition codex/supplement. You need the code out of the book for the 9th edition codex. You also need the subscription for the army builder. Not all books are in it, ie it does not have the current Chapter Approved in it, but it does have 2019.

I didn't really get on with Azyr, tried it briefly but quickly scampered back to Battlescribe.

They have to try and get people to get a subscription model somehow...
Given what you get at other streaming services for the money, I'm afraid this WH+ service is going to be underwhelming. The 40k app is still a buggy mess and now they are trying to copy it for AoS, so that's going to be a sh*tstorm.
They are just going to give you access to books that will be mostly out of date in the very near future, unless you first purchase the content to then get a subscription to be allowed to view it.
Could you imagine if other streaming services like Netflix had to audacity to say: from now on, you have to buy all future movies first and after that, you get to subscribe to see the movies you already bought via our stream?

I quite enjoyed the AOS app for the last few years. Although, it certainly has been a bit neglected ever since the 40k App came out, and updates were a lot slower.
As a free reference, it was unrivaled, and the army builder was great too. It could have done with a lot of purging of legacy warscrolls, as that lead to confusion for some newer players, but it was nice to have in there anyway.
At the very least, army building is heaps upon heaps simpler than in 40k, so the army builder won't have the capacity for as many issues and flaws, due to less complexity. Although, I know that the AOS app was a complete mess when AoS 2 came out, but it was sorted out pretty quick.
I always buy the physical books for the armies I play, so needing to buy the book it's an issue for me at all (I don't like reading my codex/battletome from a screen), but I know that's a big deal for a lot of folks.
I guess we'll see how it goes when the 25th rolls around.

Eh you don't need subscribtion to use books so your analogue is false.
Rather it would be netflix having separate selection of movies you can buy with 1 time payment you can watch freely regardless of do you have subscribtion and which aren"t vievable by subscribers.

So, they dropped it before the new one is out?
Not that it's gone, and it's good that hey aren't charging for Azyr any more...
The app is a pain to use, with bad controls when using publications in it.
But, the Azyr army builder just worked when I wanted it to.
Some downsides to phone apps fall away when you can pair your phone with your PC from within Windows, and control it from there. I'll be screenshotting and printing off the updated warscrolls from the app, since the cards are outdated quite quickly.

I’ll say while the 40k app at launch was a garbage fire, it’s really not bad now and I like where they’ve gotten it overall. Still really needs the missing Crusade rules though.

I downloaded it to try it on my iPad. Yeah, it's hard-coded for phone resolution. It lets you "expand" the thing, but it means it's just zoomed in rather than properly scaled for iPad. That's such an amateur mistake in development I immediately uninstalled it and don't plan on ever using it. If they do the same for the AOS app (which I'm going to expect at this point), then same deal from me.

Betas up in action.
At present for me everythings visible, however I find if I have it open for a while eventually a bunch of things drop behind paywalls, require x battletome etc. Reopening it makes it all accessible again though. So may be a good time to play around.
Few bits are a little clunky but overall okay. Cut of a list export below for the curious. Comes out as a rather solid wall of text

It'll need to do a lot more than build lists and show rules for me to pay for it over continuing to use Battlescribe.

Dam that is a dense way to write a list.
Also finding the app is clunky, has typos, and is generally less convenient to use than the old one. In particular if I have a warscroll open then switch to a different app/window it resets to the home screen and I have to go pull up that warscroll again.
Having the points cost and matched role in each entry is cool though.

It's a beta with a lot of faults in it so far...
It's particularly bad if you are a nurgle player. This doesn't convince me to actually bother getting a subscription, quite the opposite in fact.

There are some aspects I like, but there are a few things like resets when you switch pages that are annoying.
Overall though I suppose half the point of it was to give it a spin and let them know what you think. So may as well flag the issues and maybe they'll get resolved.
