What model do you love, but the rules/points make it bad to use?

My favorite bad model is the Imperial Guard Sentinel. It's super fluffy, and it feels iconic. It looks really cool next to regular Guardsmen, but I feel like it's a bit underwhelming and doesn't do a lot usually.

Heresy. Sentinels are awesome. I use them all the time.

Models I love - Howling Banshees. Reality of their existence - utter crap.

Land Raiders are a pretty solid pick. Great themes and visuals, underperforming mess ruleswise.

Imperial Guard grenade launchers are another. Especially some of the old metal models are ace, but never really worth it in comparison to the other specials.

Plague marines. I love my stinky bois and have 42 of them currently (nearly at the magic 49!) with only 2 duplicate poses in the group.

However there is no role in the game that can't be done better by poxwalkers or terminators, not that it stops me from including them as much as possible! My current go-to list includes a 10 man squad kitted out for melee. They hit like a ton of bricks, but usually die before getting a chance.

your mind

Been a while since I have used it so I am not up on current rules but the Morkanaut is a model that I really enjoyed building and painting (yellow) and basing and adding little grots for style (on magnets) and a mek with the KFF (also magnetised) and all that but it wasn’t very effective… also the stompa, same thing. Overall though I have to say land raider, followed by falcon.

Gotta be howling banshees and striking scorpions. The shooty aspects are generally fine, but I wish all aspect warriors were balanced around being worth 20-25ppm and had the stats to back that up instead of Fire Dragons and Dark Reapers and Shining Spears being that and the rest being just a tiny bit more than the cheapest cheap-o trash.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

For my current collection it's my Outrider squad. Any kind of jump pack infantry would be better for the points, but I love the models and I like my paint job.

Aside from the Land Raider, has to be the Wraithknight for me.
Wraithlords aren't great either but I can't help but keep adding them. Aside from my 2 for Iyanden, I have 1 for terrain (statue) a generic wraithseer conversion, and 3 Aspect converted ones (currently Scorp, Dire Avenger and Dragon) with 2 more on the way to do banshee and reaper.

As a couple of others have already said, Howling Banshees. Think I'm more scared of being yelled at by my mum than a squad of them.

Definitely Killa Kanz which have been mediocre at best since 5th edition, when they were still mediocre but had one build (9 kanz, 80+ boyz, 15+ lootas, 2 big meks with KFF) that made them pretty good. Also Tankbustas, love the models and the lore, hate how their rules are now.

Land Raider is my least favorite model in my SW and it's a staple (the Crusader variant) in my 9th SW full firstborn lists .

Rules and points be damned.

Eldar Vyper Jetbike.

What. A. Beautiful. Kit.

At least…..once you’ve assembled it. Having been release no earlier than 23 years ago, it’s constructed look is still pretty solid. Certainly I’d bet if you put it in a line up with three more modern, but assembled kit, your man in the street would be unlikely to peg it as the oldest example of GW’s craft.

It matches its background - fast, shooty, manoeuvrable. It’s sleek. It looks lightweight without looking needlessly fragile.

It’s just…..beautiful.

But the actual kit? Oh….oh my. It’s….just so basic, and the crew a seriously showing their age. You know, I think it might actually predate the (crap from the get go, to be fair) Ork War Buggy plastic kit. Don’t harass me if I’m wrong, it’s was many many years ago.

I crave a proper update for it. Give it different chin mounted weapon options - thought not necessarily the same as the pintel mount. And FFS sort out how the main canopy attaches to the Hull block. That’s definitely how it shows it’s age!

I no longer play Orks, but Killa Kanz were always a unit I loved the look off but they just didn't perform well enough to include.
Now for my DG I love Plague Marines and they at least are usable, but I still think they aren't quite there rulewise. Not bad per se, but for such an iconic unit I'd really like their rules to be up to snuff too.

Every CSM with 1 wound, probably. They're not even bad per se because they can still bring a lot of firepower for their points, but as a narrative player it just feels bad to see these veterans die like flies against those Noobs of the false emperor.

The Stompa. A really iconic Ork unit that suffers from GW being unable to really write good SHV in the current edition. It's "better" than it was in 8th, but that's not saying much and can easily get dismantled by all the angry chicken walkers and dark lances flying about nowadays.

Triumph of St Katherine. A pinnacle of model making and just gorgeous but a total garbage model in terms of actual function. In the last book it was pretty solid but they nerfed it for no particular reason.

Anything orky that involves looting. Converted battlewagons, custom-built deff dreads, meka-dreads, and my Mr. Potato Head stompa. Looted-wagon tanks. Bommers.

I have so many models that I put time and love into crafting, that will continue to sit on the shelf so GW can push their Age of Sigmar pig-riders.

Can I just add to the chorus of: "The Land Raider looks awesome, is totally iconic, and sadly just doesn't perform?"

Although, that being said, on my very first game of 9th edition my land raider did blow up spectacularly and deal 6MW to pretty much the entire opposing army, clearing away like half of it, and setting me up for the win...

So, uh, I guess if it can do that every game...

Imperial Guard armor and artillery, particularly the Vanquisher. After that, the Predator, particularly the Destructor pattern.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Ya as someone who tracked down a number of the old forge world vanquisher turrets because they look so cool there is really no way to justify taking them on the tabletop.

Shadow Sword/Baneblade. For the cost it's completely worthless, in this iteration of VehiclesaretehSUCK40k, but they also speak to the sheer ludicrousness of Imperial Guard might in battle. If had any more guns it would be a Gargant or a Knight.
