So I listened to the Shattered Legions audiobook collection and decided to try to find out as much information on the different Shattered Legions groups as I could, as I have leftover Marines from various projects that could work well as a mix of Salamanders, Raven Guard, and Iron Hands.

I'm noticing an odd trend: those forces that didn't remain/insist on only working with members of their own legion and/or didn't immediately return to their respective homeworlds ASAP...things didn't end well for them, as in they all died horribly either before or during the Seige of Terra.

Did any group actually fight together through the end of the Seige, or did the universe punish them for being exclusionary and pseudo-isolationist?

Not Shattered Legions exactly, but we know some 'unaligned' factions survived:

Spoiler:
Ashen Claws and Carcharodons are both fragments of the Raven Guard Legion operating outside of the Imperial command sturcture.

The Loyalist Shattered Legion forces often knew they wouldn't survive the Heresy. They're small guerilla groups who would be wiped out in one major confrontation. Which is kind of the point.
The Shattered Legions were a threat, not because they were strong, but because they were scattered, desperate and mostly had nothing to live for. Autek Mor led a company that was almost entirely comprised of Immortals who didn't care if they lived or died after Ferrus was killed. Mor's force basically just went around murdering entire Traitor planets.

As for post-Siege, most would likely be brought back into their Legions then split up again with the Codex Astartes. The aforementioned Autek Mor founded the Red Talons for example.

For many of the mixed groups survival was not the objective. For them it was about striking back at those who had betrayed them. The groups that were more mono-legion where more structured and willing to pull back and regroup for the future, while the mixed groups were united in their desire for vengeance and would be more willing to die fighting if it meant taking more traitors down with them. It had little to do with their willingness to mix or not, it was more why they mixed and kept fighting long after a "normal" group would have retreated.
