IODDDE is a bit of a headscratcher IMO. You use it on an operative who gets killed during your opponent's activation, who must then activate next and play out their APL, doesn't count as wounded so doesn't suffer any neg modifiers.. but can this model still fight in close combat? And what happens if the model takes wounds in that same melee? Is that model effectively invulnerable to any damage until the activation ends and the model is removed from the board? If so, that's nasty, a marine with a good melee weapon and "fight twice" ploy can dish out ridiculous amounts of damage and no amount of damage done to it in return will take them down!

thoughts?

The way I have played it to date is...

Space Marine activates, does stuff, gets killed. Little point using 'In Death' because he has already had a go this turn, so next activation I would have to activate someone else. I suppose keeping him alive to support someone else charging could be good? End of that activation he falls down dead in a dramatic buffy the vampire style death scene.

Space Marine hasn't activated, gets one shot'ed by an angry melta gunner. I spend a CP, he's alive! and I can activate him as normal. End of activation he dies.

Yeah, but he actually becoms a lot better at melee during that last activation than he would ever be, even with full wounds. Sounds like an abusable problem to me. I expect GW to give a FAQ about this one sooner or later.

Yes lots of panicked parrying by the individual confronted by the angry mortally wounded marine. Better hope he doesn't have a power fist!

Eeeh. The Compendium marine list really needs the help; they have far too few activations¹ otherwise. Plus it still costs CP so unless it’s quite early in the game, they aren’t doing much else with stratagems that TP and I’d rather have one marine maybe fighting once over the entire squad fighting twice.

¹ Custodes get away with it by being utter badasses and also having even more broken strats.

How's he so much better? While the marine doesn't have to bother saving any melee successes for parrying, the model fighting the marine doesn't have to bother to anything but parry (since damage won't matter).

I hadn't thought of that. Makes much more sense when you put it like that. So for anyone who doesn't have a melee weapon with the Brutal special rule, this becomes pretty much a non-issue.
