As per the subject, I am playing in an upcoming apoc game. We are using PL and I wasn't quite sure what variant of Leman Russ I should go with or how to properly kit it out. Instead of rolling the ball for another hour, I wanted to see what everyone else thought.

Hello. For me Apocalypse = loads of big resilient stuff, loads of killy stuff, a big table and a hell of firepower from turn 1 in long fight ranges.
This means your LRBT may not last long, and they need to target enemy from turn 1.
I would favor the classic battle cannon, though YMMV.
On Tank commanders, executioner plasma cannons can be good too.
You will be paying 10-12 PL, no matter the tank loadout, so bring sponsons.
Multi-meltas or maybe plasma on tank commanders, on the other hand only multi-meltas on regular LRBT.
Though triple flamers can prove handy if you manage to get close.

Is it just me or did the Vanquisher used to be 2d6 damage? I could have sworn it was better than d6x2 drop lowest.

Duh, it's just you. Vanquisher has always been terrible since 8th dropped.
However, the last version of Warhammer Legends Forgeworld document has a profile for the Stygies vanquisher battlecannon with an updated profile having D3+3 damage.
Which is a bit better than roll 2D6, pick the highest.

He is talking about Apocalypse. Completly another rule system.

Yeah, I thought I saw the Vanq was 2d6 in Apoc, but I can't find that now. In any event, I love the look of the Vanquisher, it reminds me of the Heavy Tank Killers of WW2, like the Tiger or the Pershing.
