How do!
So I’ll finally be getting my PS5 delivered at the end of the month. And being from the era of Gaming Magazines, I never quite made the leap to online sources, because when that happened I wasn’t that interested in pooter games. So I’m currently at a loss of what might be a reliable, fairly unbiased source of news, reviews and that.
Hence I’m turning to Dakkanauts to start finding out more.
To kick off with, I’ve got the super duper version of Miles Morales on my PS4, so I will have a perfectly excellent game to get going with. But once that’s done? I’ll be wanting new games to enjoy. There are a fair few titles out there, but looking on Amazon, they’re not especially cheap. That means I’m going to be picky. If I’m spending £60+ on a game, I want to know whether it’s actually fun the first time around, and how much replay ability it holds.
Here’s an incomplete rundown of the games I’ve enjoyed on PS4, which might help guide recommendations. They’re in no particular order.
1. Spider-Man and Miles Morales
2. Mad Max
3. Skyrim
4. Star Wars games
5. Fallout 4
6. God of War
Now, I know some of those are getting sequels, and others yet another remake. I’m here for the sequels, but have absolutely zero intention of spending money on a remake I’ve already played, got and completed. Because I’m not insane.
KOTOR is very much on my radar. I’ve never played it, but have only heard good things. And open world stuff does seem to tickle my fancy.

There's not a whole lot to play on ps5 atm, but if your list is most of what you've played on ps4 I would recommend these
Horizon Zero Dawn
Ghost of Tsushima
Last of Us 1 and 2
Uncharted series
Bloodborne (haven't actually played this one myself, but it always gets mentioned for best game on the console)

Bloodborne is a PS4 game you can play on PS5 (there's rumours that fromsoftware *is* making a PS5 vesion.
Demon Souls is a great pickup.
Ghost of Tsushima is another good recommendation.

I don't have a PS5 yet and probably won't bother for another 2 years or so when ther is a better selection of games for it (though the new Spiderman game may change that plan). Seems like most of the games for the console at the moment are available on PS4 anyway.
I do like the look of the new Ratchet and Clank game, it is a very fun series of games if you have never played them with some very fun and satisfying 3rd person shooter action.
I'll third Ghosts of Tsushima, absolutely beautiful game and one of the few I have gotten 100% on purely by accident as I was enjoying it so much.

Horizon Zero Dawn. Yes its a ps4 game, however the PS5 version has a 60fps unlock and a few other boosts that got released a while back.
I played it on pc (so had to wait years for the game to jump to pc) and its a fantastic game. It just oozes quality and charm all at once and the gameplay is fun and engaging. Storyline is well put together and I'd also say that the side quests are some of the best I've ever played because they aren't side-quests. They almost feel like main-story quests in how some unlock more information and discovery of the world whilst the explorations into the underground facilities are significantly big areas. Again these optional side quests feel much more like main/core quests in how they are built. It makes them FAR more engaging and makes the game feel a lot deeper too.
There's a lot to explore and discover and the mech designs are a lot of fun.
There's also a sequel coming out next year that continues the story, so getting the first game now lets you get fully up to speed!

Congrats on getting your PS5! Other have already covered quite a bit already (another vote for Ghost of Tsushima!) so I won't repeat them, but some of the ones they have missed are:
Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart. Insomniac as you probably already know from their Spiderman games are really good at giving you wacky and distinct weapons and this game is no different. Pretty much a Pixar playable game, I think you'd definitely enjoy it and its one of the few games that makes the most of the controller's new rumble features.
Other than that, Yakuza 0 is a very solid game and entry for beginners to Yakuza franchise, and has one of the best plotlines in the series. You can also try Judgement or Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the former if you like murder mysteries and the second one if you like a real underdog story. The latter I feel like you'll appreciate more of if you've actually played the Yakuza series for the easter eggs, but its still pretty newbie friendly.
Persona 5 Royal, really good JRPG and you'll really get your money's worth with the amount of hours you'll put into this game.
In terms of open world, I feel like Gravity Rush 2 is an underrated game and has very different dynamics to most games. The beginning is a bit slow but its worth getting past the first act IMO to really get to the meat of the gameplay in the later portions of the game. Days Gone is also another solid open world game that tackles the zombie genre in a different way in that it makes hordes legitmately scary, at least in the early game.

No PS5 and I am just adding to the above but
Horizon Zero Dawn
Persona 5 Royale
Ghost of Tsushima
Are all top suggestions if you did not catch on PS4 and I think Horizon and Ghost may have additional improvements when played on PS5?(not certain as I do not have PS5 but thought I heard such)

Think I’m going to try Deathloop. Sounds pretty interesting, and I am a natural puzzle solver.
