I wanted to buy a Great unclean one, and thought why not save $120 and just make one. I have damn near 200 little loose nurglings both metal and plastic and wanted to know if just making an amalgamation of nurglings into a giant blob holding a big sword could potentially be turned into a great unclean one.
My idea was to glue them into shape one by one unto a round shape, and then leaving it hollow and using leftover bits for a face. Does anyone think this could look good or should I just get a great unclean one and not try it. Just wanted some opinions before I start building.

Depends on what your skill level is but I'd start with some sort of substructure.
Maybe start with metal or plastic and then greenstuff over, then add the nurglings as the outermost layer.
If you're a good sculptor maybe shape the greenstuff layer with eyes, faces, etc to give a more multilayered effect.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy. |

I mostly think you should do this because I want to see it. It sounds difficult, but it's a pretty damn great idea.

Have them arranged as a sort of tidal wave of nurglings swarming forward?

As long as the final model has about the right dimensions, I'd say go for it! Even GW tournaments can't ban it if it's made from official Nurgling models (as it's all GW parts!). Plus, rule of cool and all that even if tournaments aren't your thing.

Thanks for the feedback, I think im going to go ahead and try it. Using greenstuff as an inner layer.
I just need time sitting and trying out different ideas before committing to greenstuff. Maybe modelling clay so I can get a shape finalized.

Go and watch Ralph Breaks the Internet. Partly because its an awesome film, and partly because there is a super handy (and super super sinister) example of something like this at the end.

A friend did something similar for his Daemon army. Don't have a picture to share, but can describe the process.
He used scraps of pink foam board to make a brick to frame out the body. I think the name of the material was Foamular or Foamtite, it was insulation he bought at the hardware store. He carved the shape of the body from the brick, and pressed Nurglings into foam to have them under the belly and legs. He sealed the basic shape using wood glue, which gave him a surface to paint on top of the foam.
For the face and horns, he used Green Stuff. For the sword he cut a shape out of sheet styrene and sharpened it with a file. The hands and feet were done with another kind of putty that allowed him to carve - might have been Procreate. Pretty sure he used a Dremel on the fine details.

Great Unclean One is one of the most enjoyable models I have ever built and painted. Your modelling idea sounds interesting but I would treat it as a fun modelling project instead of a replacement for awesome model that doesn't need to be replaced.
