Been Around the Block

Hi all!!

So, I’ve been away from the hobby for a few years. Last thing I played was warhammer fantasy when you could have regiments, and a game of dropship commander

Since then I’d gotten into other things

However, life has moved into a phase whereby sitting down of an evening and doing some painting is REALLY appealing!

I’ve got to have a new hip so continuing judo would be problematic

I’ve seen that warhammer fantasy is set to return next year/2023 and I’m eager to be in a position to get cracking on that again when it happens.

In the meantime I’d like to explore what I remember as imperial guard. Always wanted a guard army and never made one so thought now would be a good time.

Is now a good time to get into 40k or are new rules coming? And it’s best to just have some painting time?

I know citadel are often the most expensive of the game available but I’ve always preferred the models and most of the time I preferred the rules too.

Anyway, be really keen on some advice - perhaps a “if you want to collect guard, buy this first”

Other than that….hi

Just posted on your other thread in 40K General Discussions. Probably best to leave the Guard specific talk there, that forum is a lot more active than this one.

Regarding rules for 40K, the editions have been getting shorter and shorter over the years, so there's always a new rule system or codex just around the corner. That's the way 40K works these days unfortunately. Bearing that in mind now's probably a good a time as any to get back into the game.

Regarding Warhammer Fantasy, nobody outside of GW really knows what that's going to look like. I wouldn't pin my hopes on expecting it to be like the good old days. I may be wrong though. If you're happy to get into 40K for now while you wait to see how Fantasy pans out I think that's a good plan.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
