Hi all,

So, won’t be in a position to actually game anytime soon - need to build up an army, watch some games and read the rules

In the meantime I’ll probably take some models to the weekly club night and sit and do some painting in between watching some games.

Anyone recommend a good army transport case? I’ve used toolboxes in the past but this time around would like something a bit better.

40k army will be guard..so will need tank space!

What's your budget? Are you going to be magnetizing your models, or will you be going with the foam inserts route?

I'm always a huge proponent of the TableWar cases, although they are more in the premium price range, and require some prep (magnetizing your models and tray (metal sheet)) to get going, and because they're sturdy hardshell, get pretty heavy once fully loaded.

I’m a big fan of KR multicase and their system.

Second that; good quality, very flexible and if you do it right you can fit a ton of stuff in each box.

I use a combination of GW hard cases with their original foam, GW hard cases with Battlefoam pluck foam, and Really Useful Boxes with custom foam (from Justlasered).

I like the gw cases. Not often I got for ancillary gw products but the crusade case I got is good.

I remember looking at those when they came out and being impressed. I like the concept of the zig-zag foam. It seemed like it would be great for if you have a mix of different sizes of plastic/resin minis, and changed what you had in your list on a regular basis. No fishing around for the right tray to hold the right sizes. My concerns were how well it would hold lead, and that vehicles seemed like they would not work well.

Those issues (and to be honest, the fact that I’d already bought into KR) made me pass.

But it seemed like it had a lot of potential for new players to drag a lot of troops around.

I simply put mine in some Tupper wear and make sure everything is touching something else so it doesn't rattle. Movement and clashing is what causes issues for models, no movement, no damage. This method started attending scale model shows many years ago all over the country, I used to carefully pack each model and sometimes would end up with a box of bits. Since switching to the pack 'em in method never had an issue. This has continued into my recent foray into 40K and remains effective. Get some funny looks at the local store though!

Plastic box, metal sheet to bottom(and depending on size top), magnets to bases. Easy, models completely safe regardless of what weird shape gw does.

This is what I've done, but I recommend the highest strength sheets possible!

Keep an eye on Darksphere, they've done a Black Friday Battlefoam sale for the last few years, managed to get a £140 case and foam for £60.
