We have any idea what the next battletome is going to be? Is it jus me or are they coming way too slow. Hard to keep interest in AoS with the super slow drip of stuff coming out.

Warcom article a month or so back had mentioned that something Chaos flavored was coming our way, for an October release. The two initial tomes had their release date pushed back, so it stands to reason that this October battletome is probably pushed back as well. We'll know in a week or two.

edit: Also, I'm personally ok with the super slow drip. AoS 2 seemed like a new tome/supplement every month. Was a lot of content to take in.

The article on Warhammer Community that said 'October' was changed when the Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Warclan battletomes were delayed:

The new Orruk Warclans and Stormcast Eternals battletomes are available to pre-order soon. A third battletome will follow these in later in the year – something a little more Chaos-flavoured, we hear.

Makes the most sense for me that Nurgle would be the next book. One of the oldest remaining books alongside deepkin.

True, but Nurgle functions better as an army than BoC thanks to updates in Wrath of the Everchosen & Broken Realms. BoC really needs work.

I'd personally hope Slaves to Darkness so that we can finally get some kits updated. I heard that Chaos Warriors and Chaos Knights were going to get an extra sprue in their boxes with customization options, which would honestly break my heart, since the kits just need to be fully updated to match with the Start Collecting that they got.

God, I would LOVE an updated Beasts of Chaos book at this point. I've ALMOST started a Beasts army about five times now, with each time essentially having to go: "No, I'm going to lose every game with this list..."

It's frustrating. I want an all monster army #@$%it!

That's not usually ever a reason for a release lol. Nurgle doesn't have endless spells yet, so they need to join that club.

I agree, I'd love beasts to get a new book and hopefully updated models. Huge potential in that range.

Not all factions have endless spells, e.g. Soulblight Gravelords, Ogor Mawtribes and Idoneth Deepkin do not have endless spells.

I'm going to guess that Slaves to Darkness aren't getting a new book soon, because they just got the White Dwarf rules. (Warqueen, Chief, cultists, and ogroids can take marks now, if I remember correctly. That, and some PtG stuff, some Grand Strategies, and some Battle Tactics, are what they got)

Which issue is that in? I ask as I dont generally read WD.

The latest one. 468 I think? It's been overshadowed a lot by the Mechanicus Hunter Clade Kill Team rules.

I'll agree to....a semi slow drip. It doesn't need to be a tome or 2 a month but maybe a bit more regular would be nice. At least it's not 40k where they literally crapped out like, 8 in 6 months (and haha, wouldn't you know 6 of them were Space Marine variants).

I appreciate the WD Battletome updates too. A VERY nice way to update things that may be waiting a while and make them viable in narrative PtG as well as retain their flavour proper. Thing I hated with 40k was how Crusade was this fantastic new idea....and then the only narrative stuff was like, 80% Space Marines. Even the WD stuff....Space Marines. Basically if you didn't play a SM army, haha, sucks to be you, enjoy generic. The WD updates are at least introducing flavour into things so people aren't going to be waiting forever for a sniff of an eta for their book...

Old as hell book and chaos. We know it's chaos. Would be super silly to release wd update and book right after so std can be ruled out. Slaanesh had book half a year ago so not that either.

Khorne, tzeentch(another quite new book), nurgle, beasts, skaven.

Not many options. Nurgle oldest by far. Beasts would be in bigger need on power but gw doesn't update based on power level.

Nurgle also doesn't really need miniature releases in big numbers. Skaven for example are in dire need. So nurgle would be easy quick release.

Odds say nurgle

Imo that's why it needs to be one of the earlier BTs. The quickest way to make the eunthusiasm drain from a new Maggotkin player's eyes is to tell them they'll need three books to make their army playable, especially if they're brand new (and thus makes that five).

BoC wouldn't be a surprise either though.

Wouldnt mind a new book for my poor gloomspites tbh. They basically seem like the rough equivalent of chaos daemons in 40k - 4 micro-factions crammed together with no synergy but none of them have anywhere near enough units to actually work as a standalone force.

Hmmm, do I want to include trogs? Well, they give me some heavy infantry, but they do almost nothing to synergize with the rest of my force and have to act as a self-contained force, but then if I do trogs I have basically heavy infantry and nothing else.

Hmm, do I want to add squigs? Well then it better be all squigs with a squig hq so they can get some kind of synergy, but then I'm leaving buffed-up blocks of gobbos on the table which seem to be the only real thing the army wants to do...

and please. Good lord, theyre already dead, stop massacring my poor gobbapalooza...

The one downside to being an Idoneth player is the constantly being told that the army "is fine" because of how eels work.

Honestly, I do actually think idoneth are pretty ok. Definitely my limited experience with them, but outside of the odd weird character unit that doesnt really do anything like Octopus Man, and the feelsbad when your Thralls are up against an army like Stormcast where everything is 2-3 wounds they generally function alright and do have some tough curveballs you can throw particular opposing armies.

Contrast that to something like Gloomspite that just feels like 7 editions out of date and lacking any kind of internal synergy or cohesive vision at all, and the fishbois are feeling fairly solid.

The parts of the army just seem to work fairly well together, IDK. It's a limited range, for sure, but at least its like "ok i can take this unit, this unit, this unit and a bunch of thralls and Reavers and make a cohesive infantry list."

Or "ok, I can take a turtle, put some shield eels in front of it, and have myself a nasty synergistic defensive formation"

or "OK, spear eels, akhelion king, and allopexes in fuethan, got ourselves a mean nasty fast alpha strike list"

There are a bunch of other armies that just feel like jumbled up messes in comparison. With Idoneth, the problem is usually that you can see what they were going for but the gimmick just doesn't work as well as it should, but other than missing endless spells there's nothing I'd point to and say 'this MUST be fixed NOW!"

Are there things I'd LIKE, like a reason to use multiple turtles, endless spells, a thing for Allopexes to do better than Spear Eels, a reason to take Octopus Man and a more impactful ability for Soulrenders? Absolutely for sure. Do i feel like I can generally survive, yeah. They feel better off than, say, any army that was based on light infantry or horded-up units when 3.0 hit.

I agree; Idoneth are functional as an army with multiple viable builds and synergies. Though one could make an argument they aren't by looking at just competitive play, one of those old staples when it comes to invalid arguments.

Always depends on environment. If environment is all about competitive play - then only the competitive builds are really valid for the subject. If your environment allows for weaker non competitive armies to thrive, whole different world.

Functional army isn't the same as fun to play army.

Playing pure Namarti Mor'phann is...yeah. It ain't that. Reavers are a mess unit additionally.

I think theres a distinction between 'this army is bad' and 'this one specific skew build I want to go for is bad'.

Fun to play army is entirely subjective. As for the second bit, not sure how one really niche, really skew build is relevant to the overall argument.

How in the world is a Namarti build "niche"?

They're the Battleline unit for the army.

I think that's kind of the point. It's very rare to run an army of entirely battleline units outside of things like... Sons of Behemat, which are mostly Battleline by technicality. Even factions that shift battleline rarely skew that hard into it besides obvious memes like "Stegageddon".

13 or something Battleline Gunhaulers was an option for KO - would that *not* be a niche skew list?

13 or something Battleline Gunhaulers required you to actually try to do so. You had to take a specific Skyport.

Mor'phann Namarti just required you to not take Eels. Especially given the lazy addition they did to the Namarti Corps Warscroll Battalion to increase the Reaver unit contingent to max out at 6 rather than the 3 it started with.
