Since I got back into this hobby because of my kids, I bought the first Warhammer Adventures book. Attack of the Necron

It features a hyper intelligent ape that is capable of assembling insane weapons that can blow everything up. The first ape featured in Warhammer ever as far as I know.

This might shock and horrify some of you all. But I think its downright hilarious.

What do you all think? Should GW make an Ape Model or Models and if so who would it fight for? In the book, the ape's race evolved from the original apes on Earth and was kept as a slave for some noble in a hive city before it escaped and joined up with the book's protagonists.

So I'm guessing the apes would fight for Imperial Guard?

Jokaero date all the way back to the original Rogue Trader.

They even have a model:

That's awesome! Is that for 40K?

It's part of the Inquisition force. I have a couple of Jokaero models myself, though as the rules stand at the moment there's little incentive to use Inquisitors with Henchmen (Inquisitors are fine on their own) so they don't currently see the tabletop.

I love the Jokaero. I really want GW to do Inquisition for Kill Team, because I want a plastic Jokaero that has a couple of options.

I love the fluff angle that they don't really communicate well with other species, but they are like svants when it comes to kitbashing tech.

As much as SFG have miffed me I have to admit the Faraway Tinkermage is an awesome Jokero proxy

Even if my tinfoil hat theory is a lot of them are retooled 3rd GB mascots

I think in rogue trader you could give a character a collection of jokero digital weapons that were ring but did that same damage as a las pistol, flamer pistol or needle sniper

Oh man. Remember in 5th(?) edition when your entire army could be Coteaz and a bunch of vehicles full of monkeys?

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Yeah. Coteaz in the 5th edition GK codex was like an entierly different codex.

Wow, amazing stuff. Did inquisitor and 5th edition give us updates on the lore though?

Personally, I kind of like the idea that they were once actual apes from Terra, that somehow got really smart. (or at least the Imperium thinks that). That way the Imperium might have more tolerance for them than if they were considered xenos.

I could also envision some pretty hilarious stories emerging.

I.E. This species was once encountered by the Tau on a verdant jungle world in wilderness space. The Tau immediately sent a Water Caste envoy to invite them to join the greater good. The Jokaero responded by throwing their own solid waste at the envoy. The Tau wisely resolved that this species was too primitive to join the empire and left the system.

This was wise because if the Tau had resolved to invade the planet, it may very well have resulted in the worst defeat the empire had suffered in their entire history.

Sounds like a Jokaero to me. They're a fun model.

Here's one I painted earlier this year.

Is this model available for purchase? I'd really like one.

From what I recall, they're decidedly not from Terra. They're just another xenos species. One that is small and useful enough to not be worth obliterating yet. I may be misremembering, but I vaguely recall the 5th edition Grey Knights codex talking about how they have a habit of escaping from their inquisitorial handlers and simply going back to their homeworld where they tend to be recaptured and brought back into service. Which I found hilarious.

Lexicanum has a page about them, but I'm not sure how accurate all of that is.

This post reminds me of the "Karmans" from the old AT-43 game. I actually collected quite a bit of it, at one time, and the Karmans were my favorite part:

Super-intelligent power armored philosopher apes who smoked cigars... what is not to love about that?

In first addition, Jokaero were referred to as Orange Apes. The idea was great and the ability was awesome, you could use 2 basic weapons to build a heavy. It was a great addition to an army. GW never really did this justice with a good mini.

Right now playing Karman in power armor as Tau Crisis Suits and waiting for Dust to come out with Vryll Heavy weapons (gorillas with armor and rifles) to use as my fire warriors. I think it will work.

Eastern Frontier Exploratores
224th Astra Legion (main army)
628th Praetorian Guard Cohort (wife's army)
827th Auxilia Cohort (ad mech fun)
825th Foderati Cohort (in the beginning army)
1212th Foederati Cohort - Jokaero (cause I like apes with guns)

I remember I once moved to a new part of town and went to the FLGS that played warhammer. I excitedly talked about my mostly proxy Karman army that I had painstakingly collected and converted (space marines) so that it was as accurate as I could get it.

The store guys literally scoffed at me and told me that I wasn't allowed to use anything other than 100% official GW products in their store, not even for casual/friendly matches.

I thanked them for their time and found a different store. It wasn't even a GW store!

Would love to have the Faraway Tinkermage to use as an Ethereal.

I am not supriced. The bussiness model of having people play in the store is just wasting a lot of floor space for the few people involved in a two hour game. The monitisation might vary, but usually it is selling models in the store.

It is better to find communal or private playing spaces in that case.
