I've just been on the Forge World website and I noticed that quite a few of the models have had a price increase at some point in the last 48 hours.

I just looked at the Astra Militarum stuff, two of the Malcador variants and the Arvus Lighter have gone up by about 5%. It looks like some of the other flyers may have had an increase too, but I'm not sure. Can anybody confirm?

I wonder if they are in the process of raising prices across the board, or if they have just chosen a few items?

Considering that many of their models have been out of stock or falsely listed as "sold out, no longer available" for some time, it's a bit irritating that they have had a price increase very soon after they are back in stock.

FW kits were overpriced anyway before the increases. Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

At this point I'm here waiting for GW to dig themselves into another hole.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

GW was catching up to FW in terms of prices, so obviously they had to pump FW prices up for them to remain suitably mory expensive.

Frigging hell. Some of those price increases are obscene even by GW/FW standards.

And is it just me or have they rejiggered the FW website a bit? Something seems different.

Some stuff actually seems to have gone down(Thranduil was $70ish I think?), but I'm not seeing a lot of increases on the US side.

Matters not. They will continue to score record profits.

I'll wait for someone to release the full chart of price hikes, and then the next chart of price hikes in relation to other countries.

I have no clue what GW and FW are thinking.

Such a stupid fething company. Remember 2 weeks ago when the ultramarines praetors came out being more expensive than any other praetor? Well, now they're all are the same price, so we dont have to worry any more. Konrad and some of the older primarchs got a price hike (konrad was $96 USD 3 nights ago now hes $104.)

Stealth (i.e, unannounced) price increases without prior warning is pretty bad even by GW's standards. I wonder if there is more to the theory recently doing the rounds about GW failing to meet its profit targets than I initially thought.

They are a smart company. People piss and moan but then make the purchase at higher prices or buy other GW stuff as they convince themselves that they are outsmarting those so-and-so’s. As long as people keep buying, they would be stupid to stop raising their prices. They are rewarded every time they do.

They are rewarded every time...until they aren't any more. Focusing on squeezing more and more money out of the existing and supposedly captive audience is what got GW into trouble in the early 10s when it turned out that not as much of the customer base was as captive as GW thought they were. I'm not sure we're at that point yet, but they're probably getting pretty close at least. It's too soon to say for sure, but it does feel like enthusiasm for the game has stalled out pretty significantly over the last six months, which historically has been a leading indicator for GW's ability to keep raising prices without losing customers.

I haven't got any FW stuff in years now is it still hit and miss with the casting quality?

Unlike GW plastics were most are ok ( except skellie legs apparently) FW things never really something I adventure much into due to inconsistent quality at High prices.

@ Navarro: Last christmas I got
1.) a Malcador MBT: Quality: good as far as I could tell. The back of the "turret" was bended a bit upwards and I struggled to correct it and didn't bother in the end. I would say 9/10 for the beautiful sculpt and 8/10 for execution
2.) a hades breaching drill: Quality: nothing to grumble about, 6.5/10 for the sculpt (for that price it should really have more details that are visible in the final product), 10/10 for execution (at least the model I got)
3.) a Leman Russ Incinerator: Quality: again, almost nothing to grumble about. The turret hatch was a bit rough around the edges. 10/10 for the sculpt (the amount of details justified the price for me personally, feel free to disagree), 9/10 for execution

And two years back I got a Carnodon that had quite some problems. Bended tracks (that I could mostly correct) and some structures were so paper thin that they broke, which would mean for me a 4/10 for execution, BUT: I bought it from a Games store I did not know before at a discount and... looking back something feels really fishy about it. It was in a Forgeworld zip bag and the seller insisted on asking that it is an original, but I later saw that he continuously has Forgeworld Stuff on a discount. So from todays perspective I suspect that it might be a recast.

So taken together I would say the casting quality was (in my case) 90-95% satisfactory (80% if you count the Carnodon). But for that price... It should really still be higher. If I hadn't specifically loved these sculpts I wouldn't have spend the money.

Thanks, 90 - 95% is not as bad as I remember, I think this is probably the reason so much of the old stuff just gets discontinued and removed from the store. Old moulds and such.

I do find many other resin casters from smaller companies with better sharper casts.
Just no 40k and thats the selling point of FW.

Just mind that this is only based on 3-4 cases I got. Maybe someone else who ordered in the last year can give his experience?

From what you have said, it sounds like the carnodon is definitely a recast. I wonder how many people who have been disappointed with the quality of FW models have mistakenly bought recasts on the second hand market?

I’ve bought quite a lot from FW, over the past few years I would say that their quality is very good, apart from issues with the mold-release agent that they use.

Weirdly from my experience, recasts tend to be better quality-wise than either GW or FW.

@ beast_gts and Undead_Love-Machine: I learned from it that I order directly from Forgeworld if I want a to be sure that it is a Forgeworld original. I would still like to own a Gorgon heavy transport technically, but the price coupled with it not even being in the codex anymore is a bit disheartening.

That was the case for me as well. Especially for more fiddly bits like the resin lasguns for DKoK models.

I mean, it never has been in the Codex, as far as I'm aware - or is it not in the latest Index that was put out for the FW stuff?

It doesn't seem to be in the App under Imperial Armour Compendium - I'll check the physical book later.

My forgeworld purchases have been "OK", which would be acceptable if the price was average, but it's not. They charge a super-premium for average quality (in my opinion).

The sculpts themselves have been pretty awesome, to be fair. It's purely resin and casting quality I'm referring to. My experience is similar to Pyroalchi.

Artel W and even some recasters have better quality control and execution.

I haven't had to ask FW for replacement of damaged/miscast parts, but it's not something that is rare in my understanding. It's not the norm, but if you buy a lot I wouldn't be surprised to have to call them for a replacement part.

I've heard people say this quite a lot. Frankly, it's complete BS.

The idea that recasts are generally better than the model that they have been cast from shows either a complete misunderstanding of the process, or just typical anti-GW nonsense. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that it's the latter.

I assume they mean they have less flash, use better quality resin, have less bubbles... you know, that sort of thing that FW is infamous for.

Hey, recasters actually need to have quality control to keep their customers, in contrast to ForgeWorld. So their stuff is generally much more high quality much more consistently, instead of being a complete shot-in-the-dark, like with FW or GW resin.
