Greetings folks,

So, it's been more than a decade since I last set foot in the tournament scene, and at least 70% of my minis at this point are either 3d printed or 3rd party proxies. My FLGS routinely has a lot of super-casual tournaments, but the tourney organizer has a strict no-proxy/no-3rd party rule (GW minis ONLY).

I've painstakingly put together a list of my few GW space wolves in an attempt to actually get to play with my friends on those days... and I'm rather worried that it will suck so bad that I pretty much shouldn't even bother. I'm not the best player at the best of times, and at this point I've only gotten about ten 9th edition games under my belt anyway...

So, tell me how terrible this list is ok? Do I stand any chance at all? Should I just not even bother?

[Space-Wolves Successor: Born Heroes, Whirlwind of Rage, Battalion]

[HQ]

1. Captain in Terminator Armor, x2 Frost Claws [uncertain warlord trait] 100pts

2. x2 LT in Terminator Armor, both armed with power axe and storm bolter 170pts

[Troops]

1. Grey Hunters: x6 Grey hunters [all with chainswords] + 1 hunter w/plasma gun, +Wolf Pack Leader w/power fist 189pts

2. [same] 189pts

3. [same] 189pts

[Elites]

1. Wolf Guard w/ Jump Packs: x3 storm-shield and power axe, x3 storm-shield and lightning claw, Sgt w/storm shield and power-fist. 201pts

2. [same] 201pts

3. Wolf Guard [no jump packs]: x5 Thunderhammer and storm shield, x4 stormshield and bolter, sgt w/thunder hammer and storm shield: 302pts

[Heavy Support]

1. Land Raider Crusader: +Multimelta, +stormbolter 295pts

2. Long Fangs: x2 heavy bolter, x2 multi-melta, sgt with plasma gun and chainsword. 160pts

Total:

1996pts

Well, what do you think? I don't have very much else to actually include that is strictly GW... If there were one or two swaps I might be able to either borrow or purchase them, but right now this is pretty much what I have on hand. Is it even remotely viable?

Hi there
To be honest this isn't really tournament list (but I don't actually know level of this tournament). Your list just don't have any synergy - I mean why captain and wgbl in TDA and not with jupmpacks - they are too slow for wg with jp? Why do you need land raider - it's too overcost for what he do and you have nothing to put inside him? Loadout in every unit especially for jump guys (they must be all with shields and claw except sarge may be) is strange. I mean I play fun-competitive list of melee wolves without any shooting (grey hunters and frost cannon on Bjorn doesn't count) but ur list isn't really shooting (only 2 meltas) and too slow and fragile for combat (troops must be as cheap as possible just for primary and secondaries - elite is where all points must be spent when you play wolves).
But it's only my opinion and I might be wrong

Hi.

No expert here, but I think your list lacks a certain focus.

TacticalToroise has a generally good guide.

I like your jumping wolf guard. They are good.

Your troops I do not like. I had some games where I tryed to deck out my troop choises to the max. But once I meat something that could lay down good damage on them, they just evaporate. I would keep them smaller so you have multiple units to be several place son the battlefield. Perhaps keep one as it is now and outflank it to threaten coming in from the side.

You need more ranged damage output. The long fangs are very fragile. I suppose you pot them in the landraider?

Your HQ's are allover the place. Space ;Marines in general and SW in general have really good units. They come in three categories:

- Melee beasts. They need to be dangerus and speed.
- Cheap units for what you get.
- Buffers. Units that cna lay down aureas, psykick powers or litanies.

Your leaders so none of this as far as I can see. 2xFrost claws is good, but deliverance is dificult. I suppose the landraider is for that as well?

What do your 2 LT do? Walk really slow?

4 things to do in your list: Shrink your troops. Hammer out your HQ with a plan. Have some more ranged weapons. And plan out your seconderies and how your units are scoring them.

The splitting up the grey-hunters makes sense, as they are going to get shot off the table regardless of if they are five man or 10. So smaller targets means more of them can at least get to and contest objectives before inevitably getting killed.

Unfortunately, I'm kinda just working with what I got here, so there isn't a lot I actually CAN add as far as new HQ or more shooty.

For my NON-GW minis I have all kinds of Space-wolf fun that would fit well (Primaris, Invictor Warsuits, Redemptors, ect)... but as I said: I'm trying to work with my "GW only" collection, and that is rather small.

I think perhaps putting in a few "ablative wound" bodies into my longfangs would work as well, as right now they will be simply too good a dang target to pass up (and probably die the moment that someone gets a clear shot).

I'll see if I can play around with the numbers and try and get the long-fangs more survivable and the grey-hunters smaller.

If those are the models you have, those are the models you have.

If you where to buy a unit of jump infnateyr you can kitbash then into a jump pack captein and a psyker. Make the spyker space wolf powers and use a stratagem to make the landraider beeing in cover and -1 to hit. Or do regular space marine psykick powers and give the landraider 5++. (Seems a bit of a waste as the jump infnateyr alreayd have 4++.)

Or get some more long ranged weapons.

I wish you luck. It is not all bad. You just lack an overall gameplan for secondaries and you have little range damage output that your opponent will abuse.

Wroclaw , Poland

i think about space marines , as with scouts and drop pods

i'm not an expert, but why not go into alpha strike with assault marines

i think, assault marines are just awsome, they are not some beasts

but, with jump packs they really rock the field with large numbers

also, with them you will need alot of characters with jp

Wulfen , is a stratagem choice , but mainly i think you should employ a large number, of primaris
