I've bought a GW "small" base brush and I just don't see the use of the thing. From the very first the end splayed out in all directions making it impossible to control. I'm trying to paint some old citadel 1990s stuff and it's impossible to do a decent base coat keeping the different colour zones separate and there's all sorts of fine detail - belts, gloves, small bits of clothes etc that the thing would be impossibly big for even if it wasn't splayed out all over the place. Eventually I want to move onto LOTR miniatures (I've got the Fellowship which I want to give a try) and they are even smaller - the men are tiny and as for the hobbits! Surely this GW base brush is just rubbish - far too big and doesn't keep a decent enough point. I'm left wondering why they even sell them. Please tell me I'm not mad - you really can't use these brushes for what they're supposedly designed for can you?

The GW website says

“This small brush (S Base), ideal for basecoating features a blend of synthetic and sable bristles, and holds a fine point allowing you to reach those tricky areas and achieve a great result.“

So if it doesn’t hold a point take it back

Although I would argue that you can use a large brush for basing small models. Maybe not each bit of detail if your thinking of basing as the first colour that goes down on each part of the model

I should have read that description. I've had it over a month now and have used it a few times so I can't take it back. It's rubbish now but it was rubbish then too. It never did hold a point. Shame I didn't take it back.
