Warcom posted the table of contents for the Octarius campaign book: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2021/10/14/prepare-yourself-for-the-mayhem-of-war-zone-octarius-with-a-sneak-peek-inside-rising-tide/

I know positivity isn't popular here, least of all, positivity about a campaign book- but this does look like the best campaign book so far.

Rules for all the legacy terrain (like the Bastion and the Void Shield Generator), and Crusade content for the Nids and Guard.

I will say (before the white knight comments start to fly) that the inclusion of long awaited fortification stats does make this book a little too "must have" where the other campaign books tried hard to provide content that was interesting while still being optional (as opposed to PA, which was almost essential for some armies).

What d'ya think?

5 bucks says the rules for the fortifications are unchanged from their 8th ed index datasheets and it's just a lazy-ass reprint like when they reprinted the WD Ynnari rules to make Blood of the Pheonix not a 50$ book with 4 pages of rules content.

Fortification and Inquisition sections are going to be reprints of their 8th edition components.

The Deathwatch AoR is...intriguing. Perhaps that's where all the Primaris SIA got squirreled away.

Oh, theyre also including inquisition? 99.999% certain that's all reprinted now, Inquisition ALWAYS gets reprints.

Okay, genuine honesty, I'm super excited for this book.

I was just thinking this morning how it was weird that Inquisition isn't getting anything for WZO given that it's an Inquisition show - this answers that thought in spades, so yay! I hope my Inquisitorial Conclave gets some love. No real Crusade rules for them, but updates to the regular rules are awesome.

The codex supplements I can take or leave, they're for armies I don't play.

The Astra Militarum Crusade content I am very much looking forward to, as it is finally time for one of my armies (other than the Sisters that I don't play much) to actually get 9th edition content. I want to see what GW's view of the "guard narrative" is, as I think it will be a big clue about how the codex will look.

Now to see if my friends are okay with me swapping out some of my Crusade earnings from default rulebook stuff to Imperial Guard stuff, or if I have to start a new army... :/ the only thing I'm not looking forward to from this book.

EDIT:
Just saw the last thing on the list: "Blank Campaign Tree" - now that's super exciting if it actually offers more than simple progression (like Pariah) and includes rules and build aids for a real narrative campaign! Exciting stuff indeed.

I have to admit I too would be unsurprised if some of the rules are reprints of 8th content... But I'm hopeful.

@Unit- yeah, swapping battle honours and requisitions now that there's access to some bespoke content is a pain. Even I, the world's most vociferous Crusade cheerleader always wished they could have released the Big Book of All Things Crusade rather than putting the content into dexes- it would have allowed all of us to Crusade on a equal footing out of the gate rather than trait swap once the bespoke content dropped.

I didn't even see the blank campaign tree on my first glance- I hope it's good, and referenced elsewhere in the book... But again I know I have to keep my expectations realistic.

I'm interested in the Kill Team Strike Force and the Inquisition stuff TBH plus the Guard Crusade stuff means I don't have to use the garbage SM stuff or paint my Druhkari any time soon

If the Inquisition stuff is just reprinted I will be disappointed but unsurprised.

Do you actually think Inquisition will get updated rules, though? I think this is just going to be a full reprint of those rules as a way to stop printing Pariah. I'm with you, I'm curious about the Crusade rules for Guard and Nids, but if I had to choose between Crusade rules and "get you by" matched play rules, I'd pick the latter. Obviously, both armies will get a little of that but much of it will be subfaction locked, and none of it will do anything about some of the putrid datasheets in either book (Ogryn? Deathstrike? Haruspex?)

Better than in a WD that's like 2 years old IMO.

Yeah no I would rather a guard codex, for sure. Crusade rules are exciting but having updated rules in general would be welcome.

For Inquisition I think they really could update things. A simple tweak (like an inquisitor being able to bring 1 unit of henchmen) would be revolutionary for the faction and takes about eight seconds of thinking and fifteen seconds of writing.

Is that not how Acolytes work? It's been a while since I looked at the WD Index but IIRC an Acolyte unit didn't take up a force org slot when you had an Inquisitor.

I think the problem is that only 1 Inquisition unit counts as not breaking Doctrines/SuperFaction Bonuses. So you COULD bring an Inquisitor + Henchment but lose Detachment bonuses for faction.

Yeah, but only one imperial agent can be taken and not break bonuses.

Just an example from Codex SM:
An Adeptus Astartes Detachment is one that only includes models with the Adeptus Astartes keyword (excluding models with the Agent of the Imperium or Unaligned keyword

My reading of that is that you can take Inquisition units without breaking detachment purity. It says something similar for the Chapter Approved rules.

Regardless, I do hope for a rules update simply because I want to see the amusing way in which jokaeros inevitably somehow crack the game wide open with the power of monky.

cmonnnnnnnnnn big money no whammies bring back the strength 20 monky lazor power battery or the every objective on the board valkyrie ultra monky drop!!! it's a tradition GW you have to do it you have to make jokaeros somehow screw with the rules in a hilarious way! You did it for me with Apocalypse making all-jokaeros an unstoppable ultra-OP power army!

The latest rules are from Pariah (not WD) and you can't bring an Inquisitor with Henchmen to a normal army without breaking faction purity bonuses.

Codex: SM apparently says you can, but I don't play SM so what that codex says is irrelevant. None of my books have that wording.

If anyone has the SoB or Admech Codexes to hand to check if the wording is similar then I think that would give an idea for what to expect for Inquisition units in 9th.

Am I seeing this right?

Nids are getting updated appendix with psychic powers, WL traits, adaptations, and relics for everyone?

The powers of the hive mind needed an update for a while now so this could be pretty big for nids.

I think most folks are expecting all of those things to be reprinted from Blood of Baal, and I believe GW acknowledged this in a war-comm post (well, they acknowledged that BoB content would be reprinted; some of this could be net new but it seems unlikely.)

Because only Inquisitors (and Assassins) get the AGENT OF THE IMPERIUM keyword. The henchmen dont.

Correct. There's also the new Synaptic Link rules(92-94).

100% the Inquisition rules are reprinted from Pariah, it won't be new. In addition, it looks like they dropped Ordo Malleus Inq in term armour, so actually less.
Not sure how this constitutes as exciting?

Dang, they really made the conflict created explicitly to make it so the imperium didn’t have to fight orks or Tyranids all about the imperium. no orks, in the entire book. Morkdamn.

Huh?? How do you know those will be new from BoB, or why do you think that? GW confirmed we'd get reprints:

Is the Psychic Awakening content in the codex?
No?

Then it's an updated appendix with psychic powers, WL traits, adaptations, and relics for everyone.

It's getting the PA stuff forward. It also contains the new Synaptic Link rules that we knew were coming.
