So, I've been pretty out of the loop Space Marine wise since 7th, just kinda absorbing the info that's out there, but one things really made me wonder...

Back in the day, the "Standard" Space Marine Chapter was more-less:
1st Comapnay Terminators / Veterans.
2nd-5th Companies: 60 Tacticals, 20 Assault, 20 Devastators.
6th-9th Reserve Companeies: Not 100% fixed, replenish 2nd-5th.
10th Company Scouts.

Not counting vehicles and transports, that was the general layout, really easy to understand.

So, now that Space Marines have all these new Primaris units, how are the companies broken down? I mean, before it was just Tactical Marines, but is there a set number of Intercessors and their types that a company is "supposed to have". Do the regular companies use phobos units or only the 10th? Wouldn't that make the 10th not be a "training company" anymore? How does the replacement for Assault marines and devastators work when the new units are in groups of 3?

Was there ever a breakdown for this (I'd assume from the Ultramarines PoV) or was it never explained?

Primaris are far less doctrinally rigid. They still function in squads, but each squad can (and will) deploy in various roles depending on the needs of a given battle or mission.

Mk X armor is by design modular, so a marine can be kitted with Phobos options as part of a Vanguard stealth mission one day, and hot dropping in Gravis armor as an Eradicator or Aggressor the next. Squads will usually deploy together in this fashion, but if for instance only six are needed for an Aggressor assignment, the other four will shift to a different need (piloting vehicles for instance).

Really the only divisional difference is between those assigned to the Vanguard (and therefore in the 10th Company) and those in other Companies.

I had the same thought today as earlier I saw a tweet showing a picture of a fully painted ultramarines chapter, strictly to the codex. Think it was circa 3rd or 4th Ed as there were thunderhawks

And I thought that’s basically out the window now even for ultramarines who should be 100% as per the codex

But I think we have had a lot of stuff over the last few years retconning the idea that space marine chapters stick to the codex astartes chapter construct, even beyond the allowed deviation such as we see in the founding chapters

I think we now know that dark angels have always maintained a force well beyond 1000 space marines as have black templars, just as a couple of examples

Broadly speaking, for company organisation:
Tactical Squads are now Battleline Units, and can be Tactical, Intercessor, Heavy Intercessor or Infiltrator Squads
Assault Squads are now Close Support Units, and can be Assault, Assault Intercessor, Reiver, Incursor or Inceptor Squads
Devastator Squads are now Fire Support Units, and can be Aggressor, Devastator, Eliminator, Hellblaster, Suppressor or Eradicator Squads.

Company organisation is a hot mess with all of the 3/6 man squads now.

Gathering the Informations.

The one exception to what Sterling said is that Guilliman laid down the creation of a "Vanguard" Company in the form of the 10th. There's still the Scout elements and the like, but there's also a dedicated 100 Astartes strong Vanguard element.

Phobos gear is, as mentioned, available to any Primaris in any Company--but the Vanguard is a dedicated element...but members of other Companies have trained in it and can fill in for those roles a bit more organically now.
