your mind

So, I have been reading posts of people I will never meet and never know, daily now for some time, and it struck me how much I learn and look forward to these communications.

This thread is for posters who I appreciate for different reasons, an appreciation thread. I suppose that one might post about other members of the forum for different reasons, because they make us laugh, teach us things, let us discover something about ourselves, or because we see them grow and develop as they learn from others here, or because they are honest, challenging, exemplary in their dedication to something valuable about our hobby, or for any other reason.

I suppose that some limits might be in order. One post, one member, one remark. Keep things short, respectful, raise a glass and carry on.

My first nominee is HBMC for cutting to the bone with one-liner sharpness. I always look forward to reading HBMC’s posts, and though I don’t agree on everything, I appreciate the depth of reason supported by general knowledge of the hobby and clever way of putting things, especially about 40K which is mostly what brings me here.

Thanks for the reads that often as not leave me smiling. Cheers!

JNAProductions and I had an excellent little discussion on female space marines in that current "what would you change about the lore" thread.

It was great, we both had completely opposite opinions but he was genuinely curious about my position and asked great questions while simultaneously defending his position and challenging me civilly. Love it. Good 'naut.

Okay, I'll hop in. Seen as I'm early, I might as well go for the easiest pick on this site.

The true Dakkadakka MVP. The one and only.

MadDocGrotsnik.

This dude. THIS DUDE.

Grotsnik probably loves this site more than any of the rest of us. The EFFORT this guy puts into his posts here - the positive, rational tone, the almost total absence of snark, of picking fights, never *well ackshually-ing* or trying to get one last pop in? The man is a saint. The antithesis of toxicity, and someone honestly I wish we all tried a little bit harder to follow the example of. Makes very interesting threads, too.

While at any given moment, most of the rest of us are (not in painting and modelling... y'all go paint those unfinished minis) in the royal rumble of whatever fight thread is the silliest this week - Grostnik? He's out in Geek Media posting about how he was just thinking about The Predator again this week, or in off topic, talking about living more healthily, or just happily discussing hobby stuff.

AND

Like, genuinely a ton of insight. The dude alludes to having lived quite the life and knows all kinds of interesting stuff, from what it's like to go through GW bootcamp, all the way to having arcane and ancient rules for Mordheim (cheers for popping into my thread that one time!) and much more my squishy little brain probably isn't recalling right now.

There are some posters here who make me roll my eyes whenever I see their username. There are some posters, even on ignore, I can hardly not encounter their nonsense because they're always in the thick of it, always picking fights and talking gak and looking to start something. There are some posters who I see and I gleefully rub my little McBogus hands together, because idk if like they're always drunk or something, but they're never not just incoherent and rambling and getting their stuff wiped out by the mods and then having a tantrum about it. There are posters that somehow have made it into adult life but will flip the feth out at the very suggestion that you don't like the same toys that they like, such is the pain of cognitive dissonance to them that someone might have a different opinion.

But Grotsnik? He improves this whole forum. I'm always happy to see a Grotsnik post, and like, above perhaps all others, Grostnik makes this site a better, more fun, more positive place to hang out in. Cheers big man.

brb, gonna create a new account to heap praise upon myself with.

+1 for HBMC though, don't see eye to eye with him on many things, but he seems like a cool dude and I like his terrain collection.

Thank you, and same to you. Civil disagreements are pretty rare on the internet.

Seconding Mad Dok Grotsnik. Good fellow, that one.

Something tells me this thread is going to turn into a popularity contest to determine the three people or so who everyone likes, rather than complimenting a wide range of users.

That being said, I'd like to third H.B.M.C., because I'm a hypocrite.

To add to the roster above.. (all of which I second)

kid_kyoto ... where do you FIND these toys to convert?!

jeff white & TheAuldGrump .. always got a good point, reasonably put....

the_scotsman for well argued points.. don't always agree, but can always see where you're coming from...

insaniak for his conversion creativity...

dubman for almost poetic recent ramblings...

I'm sure more names will come to mind in due course...

A veritably positive thread, I like it.

I'm not sure if Elbows has gone completely quiet, his insights on game development and his pretty tables were always uplifting content.

Of the more active folk, I would like to name catbarf. Their modelling work is outstanding and generally educated output on the discussion side often thought-provoking.

Coming in on Scotsman here… he had a post which was effectively a mini bat rep that was so on point he brought his interlocutor into clear discussion and though they disagreed the clarity of example was what made the exchange possible. Honestly, I sometimes don’t have the patience to read book length posts and he is often good for that, but after the last few things that I have read from him, I am learning to be more patient. Dude is good for Dakka, a genuine asset. Thanks, really, Scotsman, for the effort.

Nice things being said about me? Eeeeewwwwwww. You crawly little bum licks!

But thank you for your kind words.

Me? I dunno. I enjoy most posts on Dakka. Frazz has been too quiet, so sadly he’s out. But I guess another pipe up for HBMC.

Today, I want to express thanks to Baronlveagh for holding forth the value of this community, it’s varied opinions and especially the depth of experience from which many of these are spawned. Reading some of this ‘naut’s posts, today, I was reminded of the privilege that I enjoy, being here, benefitting from that experience. Thank you for being here, too.

Gathering the Informations.

There's only a handful of Dakka posters these days who really provide useful, helpful content or discussion.

Only three of them have actively been named in this thread:
Jidmah, Scotsman, and Mad Doc Grotsnik.

NinthMusketeer, who albeit someone I commonly butt heads with, provides some wonderful commentary into AoS.
Unit1126PLL, again someone I butt heads with often...but they love them some Guard and it shows.
Theophony, for his wonderful thread of 3D printed stuff and his commentary on all things Bushido.

I'm sure I could think of more.

Apart from everyone already mentioned here sone names that come to my mind:
RevlidRas for his very interesting takes about homebrew units rules and the very civilized discussions about them.

Oldmate for his cool lore and lots of interesting conversations about proxies, kitbashing, djungle/desert equipment and real world military logistic and stuff

Sisters Sidney for her incredible work on homebrew SoB rules,

Max Morray for his impressive papercraft models and providing such detailed explanation how to do them.

The Crow for his fluff ans "a Grots Life"

Also the community in general every time I Post a painting related question. The amount of valuable advice is always stunning.
