Sinister Chaos Marine

Hello friends,

I'm returning to 40k and hoping to finally get myself a fully painted and based army! Please don't crucify me for this, but I'm making a Chaos-themed Custodes army. Here's where we're starting:

I'm magnetizing these swords and shields so that when the Custodes book drops presumably in December I'll be able to re-arm them with whatever weaponry suits their new rules. And also so that next year when the new Chaos book(s) drop I'll be able to use them in a true force of Chaos.

I have four Custodes Guardians ready to be based, primed, and painted. I'm going to go with a color scheme that will resemble Black Legion. They are going to be a very dark metal color (15:40 silver:black) with a gold trim. Each of the first four minis I've got will be independently dedicated to one of the four Chaos Gods. Their shields, cloth, and some other accessories will be painted to match their devotion. One shield painted red with a brass trim, one green with a silver trim, one blue with a yellow trim, and one pink with a black trim.

Anyway, I hope some people can enjoy/appreciate this project

Rejoice in the coming oblivion!

Thank you guys for the support! I really appreciate it I was a bit worried imperialist players might be unhappy with my choice.

So here's the first 4 guys ready to be primed and painted! I don't have much of a timeline, but am hoping to update this blog at least weekly with whatever gets done.

The lore behind these guys:

They are not Adeptus Custodes that have ascended to Chaos, but rather daemonically possessed terminators. With so much time spent in the Warp, their bodies, minds, and souls have mutated. Although their mutations are not as twisted and apparent as other servants of the Dark Gods, their bodies have grown larger (S & T 5) and their senses more keen (WS & BS 2+). In addition, through their millennia of service to the Ruinous Powers they have gained the favor of the Chaos Gods, whose protection is supernatural (+1 invul).

As for the weaponry, I'm not entirely sure. Demonic rewards, war-gear fusing together through warp energies, reclaimed from the corpses of dead imperialists, whatever.

Coming next will be some Possessed Marines being used as Venatari Custodians, as well as some photos of the Guardians after they've been painted (at least somewhat).

Alright, so only 1 possessed so far. I need 2 more. This guy is acting as a Venatari with a buckler and pistol.

The possessed enjoy much more rewards from the Dark Gods than the terminators. Not only are their bodies and senses enhanced, but they've also grown wings, allowing them to fly through the air, and have thick, hardened skin protecting them. Demonic and protected by the Ruinous Powers, they enjoy an invulnerable save like the rest of the army. And finally, they're able to launch arcs of lightning from their claws to smite foes from a distance.

Now that is an conversion project worthy of chaos.
I like their overly spikey nature btw.

Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

I'll second that. Great conversion work, although they look very dangerous to handle. You should eventually corrupt a Guilleman figure and give them a Chaos Emperor to protect. Also be interesting to see Abaddon have a rival for leadership of the legions -- even if it was just head-canon. Down with the corpse-god! Long live the true Emperor! ... or something like that. Anyway, excited to see more, and with paint.

Thank you very much!

I love spikes! And yes they are tragically dangerous to handle. They're 3d printed and quite brittle so they're even more delicate than regular plastic CSMs. They're going to break/snap and some of them have already lost spikes or the tips on horns. But that's the price you pay for the glory of Chaos lol.

A corrupt Guilliman isn't a bad idea at all. The model I have planned for my terminator lord (shield captain in allarus armor) could potentially work nicely for that. He already looks somewhat similar. I had planned to model him with dual power claws, but a power claw and a flaming sword might be nice, too. An actual conversion that resembles him enough that it's obviously a corrupt Guilliman just by looking at it might be too tricky for me, but I'll see what's out there.

My friend bought a 3d printer, and being able to kit-bash and modify the minis digitally has been an insane improvement with what I've been able to do. Most of this stuff has hardly been converted, honestly, it's just stuff I found online. Like, all I did to the possessed was print a mirrored version, snip off the arm, and attach it to the other side. And the terminators just have custodes weapons with different heads that we added horns to.

I am excited to get painting. I'm having my buddy airbrush the base coat this weekend and then I can start working on the details. I'm hoping to have something show-worthy by next Friday.

I got some stuff printed, but haven't gotten a lot of work done. Here's the first four terminators with their colors.

I've been really busy so I haven't gotten a lot done. Still prepping the pieces to be put together. Here's the two I've partially built.

The demon prince (right) is counting as my warlord, a shield-captain on a jetbike. It will have an axe that will count as the Custodes' lance, giving it S6 and rerolling wounds (I think) on the charge. It also rapidly shoots small fireballs which have the effect of being its hurricane bolter. Unfortunately, the model looks like a [Monster] and [Jump Infantry] even though it's actually a [Biker], but whatever.

The daemon engine (left) is going to count as my Achillus Contemptor Dreadnought. It is wielding the Achillus laser-spear (whatever it's called) in one hand and has the wrist-mounted destroyers. I'm a little disappointed with how large it fits on its base, but I cropped the base to be 60mm as that's what I read the Achillus' base size is, and I shrunk the mini in order to be the same size as the Achillus. I'm wondering if I did the math wrong or something, because it looks much larger than the Achillus model when compared to their respective bases. Either way, it will function as an Achillus and its weapons are identical to the Custodes weapons. Its pose also matches the Achillus, which will be more evident when the model is finished.

Thank you

So, I've finished building the possessed (venatari)! Still need to base two of them.

Here's my first 1,000 points: Demon Prince (Shield-Captain on Jetbike), 3x3 Terminators (Custodes Gurdians), 3 Possessed (Custodian Venatari), and a daemon-engine Achillus contemptor dreadnought.
