Hello
https://i.imgur.com/n6H01um.mp4
I'm a bit stuck here.
I liked the Valkyrie ... as a concept. The model is old and ofc it could never fly.
So I wanted to make some changes and add some detail. This thing would be rated for low-orbit action with extra thrusters and some extra VTOL exhausts.
Now I also have the weapons ready but I feel like something is missing to make it look realistic... but still 40K.
Looking for opinions to improve and expand.

A super cool model, and do not confuse aerodynamics with form. My good friend who was a structural assembler w/ Northrop on the B2 bomber once said, "With enough thrust, a brick would fly." So enjoy the super looking Valkyrie!!
I think it certainly has enough detail, with rivets and panel lines and such - maybe some rocket launchers or guns hanging from the wings would add to its awesomeness.

HI yes those are done but not yet applied.
No I wonder how to improve the thing itself, not it's armaments.

I think its greatest improvement will lie in the paint job. Otherwise, looks well detailed to me.

Honestly, I thought you were showing an example GW Valkyrie for the first couple seconds and it wasn't until I saw the Twin Lascannon that I realized I was looking at the scratch build one.
Given that, I have to say it looks awesome! The only big comment I have currently is to check the weapons options that a Valkyrie can take if that matters to you. As far as I'm aware, they can swap the side mounted Multi-Las for a Lascannon, but not a Twin Lascannon. Other than that, it's a couple missiles or rocket pods, and two HB. I really like the way the rocket pods looks myself, but I don't know if they're considered good in game. Again, if any of that matters to you.

I made two of these, identical except for loadout.
I have another cockpit and wings and tail... "struts?" for a Vulture too but I'll be doing those at a later date. Didn't feel like doing 3 versions at the same time.

Honestly that's pretty brilliant The only detail that I know is missing are the hoses that connect around 1/3 along the engines, but they're a minor detail. Can't think of anything that needs changing.

Yeaah don't have anything ribbed to make those atm :/
Working on the intake fans atm.
I don't really LIKE them but they are essential to the Valkyrie look. I should add the attachements on the nose I think, those are still missing I just realize.

Sounds like something a structural person would say

Maybe I should add some https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canard_(aeronautics) ?
I mean would it deviate too far from the template, right? I think it would look awesome but it's 40K so... I aint no heretek.

There's thousands of forge worlds and many have their own STCs they use for things. That's one of the main reasons there are so many patterns of Boltguns in the lore, even if only a few are actually represented on the table. If you want to make your custom model different from the official one, go ahead and do so. Especially with a small stylistic detail that could realistically have potential benefits over the standard model. There's a few forge worlds out there that have been given permission to experiment and even produce new technology, as borderline heretical as that is. The Bellicos Bolt Rifle is a in-game general SM Relic that is one such example.
