im looking for ways to get that ap up from 0 on the relic contemptors twin volkites. only thing I can see is the strat that puts a unit into all the doctrines which would result in a -1 from devastator doctrine. Are there other ways to do it?

Is Storm of Fire still a thing? Might help but Twin-Volkites don't need the boost.

Yep, Storm of fire warlord trait on a nearby techmarine or something to convert 6's to wound to Ap -1 is the only generic way for Space Marines to get extra AP on them that I can think of.

nah, probably not. they are strong.

I will say, though, im not getting that much out of them vs non-horde builds.but often, especially with out the missiles, MEQ-units just shrug off the volkite shots with 2-3+ saves.

cool thing is, they keep even heavier stuff honest due to the MW-mechanic. its just not very reliable. at least not for me.

after having run them several times, id say they are not OP. yes, they are a tier one unit and definitely on the top of the power curve. And yes they can mutilate hordes, but hordes need a strong counter right now, Imo. also, the CP cost keeps the volkite redemptor reigned in, id say.

Im still a fan o the build, though : )

Neat. probably too much hassle, though. on the other hand you could build quite the backfield castle with to volkite dreads and one techie for repairs, +1 to hit (only on one of them, i guess, as storm of fire would take up the slot for master of the machine) and potential extra AP.

Some chapters like Dark Angels and Iron Hands have other ways to to return to Dev Doctrine outside of the 2cp adaptive strategy strat as well.

I think IH also have a strat for 6's to wound get bonus AP while in Dev doc that could stack with something like storm of fire for ap-3 on 6's in Dev doctrine.

Here's my take on Volkites...stop bothering with them. They become less and less relevant as time goes on.

Please don't derail the thread with your unsolicited opinion.

To OP: it depends upon your Chapter. Ultramarines, Deathwatch, Dark Angels, and Iron Hands all have ways to shunt individual units back into Devastator Doctrine. Iron Hands, Dark Angels, and Iron Hands also have the "army-wide rending" stratagem which applies to Heavy Weapons in Devastator Doctrine. As mentioned, Storm of Fire also works.

For Death Guard, there is also the Inexorable Contagion.

By the way, I think Iron Hand can make the best out of the 16 shots volkite contemptors, it has a stratagem that makes 6s to wound being 2 wounds, which also means 2 MW for each 6s.

I don't think that works.

When you add a wound or hit or something, the extra is considered to be a success without a die roll. So you don't proc extra effects that require a certain roll.
