So I’ve been kinda wanting to get into aos for a while with bonesplitterz, but I’ve been looking at their rules and they seem to have just gotten way worse (and less fun) over time. I fished out a old 1st ed sheet for the infantry and big stabbas were 3 damage, plus d3 mortals on monsters. Now they’re 2, with no bonus, without breath of gorkamorka.
Why does gw hate them so much?

Thats the GW merry go round. Just stick around. One day they will get their turn as an OP tournament army.

Thats how they keep people buying new armies.

Well, that hardly makes sense. If GW wanted people buying new armies, they'd have made Kruleboyz and Bonesplittaz bonkers-strong. After all, the tournament orruk players already had Ironjawz armies, they were super strong through 2.0, and have only gotten better in 3.0.

More likely is GW wants to kill of Bonesplittaz, or they're just not good at balancing rules.

I can believe the killing off part, they’re just too cool for gw to handle I guess.
Or maybe one guy who was in charge of the new dex got annoyed with the good ol 30” flying rogue idol.

Gathering the Informations.

If they wanted to kill them off, they'd just kill them off.

Look at the gutting of Wanderers when the Cities of Sigmar list dropped.

I guess, their attitude towards bonesplitterz is just strange. Like they lost all the rules that gave em bonuses against monsters in the edition where they’re making monsters good.

Given how things ended up those monster killing bonuses went to the Kruuleboyz, but the bonesplitterz didn't get anything in return. Just a lot of loss.

Eh, Kruleboyz don't have anything specific for taking down monsters, just the Killbow, which isn't amazing either. Against a 14 wound monster, it's going to average a 6 damage shot. But then you need to actually hit and wound, and the monsters you see on the board will usually have amulet of destiny and 2+ armor saves with bonuses beyond that to negate rend.

My suspicion is that they don't intend to squat Boneplitterz, but they also devoted very few resources to them, whether because there was a directive to prioritize KB, or just because whoever was writing the book didn't care about them.

If I had to guess, it feels like they probably got nerfed hard at some point in development once playtesting showed how powerful the 4+ ward waaagh was in conjunction with the massive amounts of wounds you can put in the army. The smarter and more responsible thing to do would have been to go back to the drawing board, but the quick and dirty thing was to just take an axe to everything else, so we ended up with this, where the faction is basically just a dps check.
