So I’m thinking about getting into orks and I just have a couple of questions.

1) Have they released the new war boss on squig model and if not, do we know about how big it will be?

2) Do all the models but boys and a couple of other suck like in 8th Ed? I don’t need tournament level, just don’t like knowing I have auto lost at army selection.

Orks are in a good period right now, with several vial builds. Many different units are taken for competitive lists that placed in tournaments so far. Ironically boyz are currently among the worst units in the codex.

Still need to optimize your lists at army selection though, we're not SM or drukhari who can field complete random selection of models and be good anyway. But the lists archetypes that do work are more than just a classic green tide.

The warboss on squig has been released and about his dimensions it's basically a deff dread on a 80mm instead of 60mm. Just slightly bigger/larger probably.

Cool. I understand that there needs to be some optimization, but I mostly play against casuals so I don't have to try as hard. Even with playing casuals in 8th I would get stomped when I borrowed my friends orks that were not boyz lol.

I suppose I will check my local GW store this weekend as my regular LGS doesn't have it. Until I can get one I think I will use my warbiker nob on a khorne juggernaut....just need to change the base.

1. The warboss on squig is out, he's roughly Ghaz/deff dread sized.

2. Most choices are good fortunately, I'll do a brief rundown.

HQ - All flavours of warboss and mega armoured Mek are good. The standouts are the Squigboss, Wartrike and Bikerboss (FW). The foot warbosses work well as Trukkboys.

Elites - Kommandos rule the roost here, easily the best elites choice. Burna boys are a good cheap alternative to boys if you max on kommandos. Nobs and MANz are both usable with Trukkboys. I haven't really tried the characters or tankbustas, so I can't give an opinion on those.

Troops - Easily the weakest slot we have. Gretchin are trash but make for okay speed bumps. Boys work well as Trukkboys in an alpha strike list. Snagga boys are worth taking if you're taking kill rigs and need to fill troop slots.

Fast Attack - Everything here is great. The buggies are all good, with the stand outs being the rukkatrukk and the scrapjet. Warbikers, deffkoptas, and squighogs are all good too. If you're taking squighogs it's worth taking the smasha squig as well. Stormboys are great for scoring secondaries. Basically only the Nobz on bikes are bad here.

Heavy support - Kill Rigs are the best in slot here easily but should be taken in pairs. Mek guns are still good (KMKs being the best all around choice), and there's definitely space for battle wagons and their derivatives, in particular the kannon wagon. Dreads are also fairly good, and kans are so-so.

Lord of War - if you're taking a LoW, it should be probably be a Kill Tank. They're very cheap for what they offer and are far more splashable than the others. Gorks/Morks aren't great, and the squigs need a list tailored to work with them.

If you want a more in depth run down and analysis, Jidmah has made a great thread on Orks over in the Tactics subforum and I advise you check it out.

First of all welcome to dakka. Afrodactyl above already gave a pretty good outline. Outside of some characters, almost every unit is playable at casual levels now, as long as you build a coherent list. Just like in previous editions, you can still build an army that is completely unable to win despite picking units that are decent in a vacuum.
If you need more information, feel free to join the discussion with the rest of the orks here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/800443.page

About the warboss on squigosaur, he is about as tall as a dread, but doesn't hang off the base. I can provide you with a photo and measurements if you need a more detailed answer.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Yeah, there are reallly only a handful of just objectively unusable units. Even units like Boyz that got quite a bit worse are still usable in either limited quantities or casual games (source: I play a VERY un-competitive gretchin-themed list and I can still very much hold my own against non-optiimzed opponents)

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
